Grounded 2 Gets New Update for December 2025

Obsidian Entertainment has released a major update for its Early Access game, Grounded 2, and is preparing for a significant content addition in January. Like the first Grounded game, Grounded 2 launched in Early Access this July and has been well-received by players. Despite not having a firm release date, Obsidian continues to regularly update and expand the survival adventure.

Only a few weeks after its initial release as an Early Access title, Grounded 2 quickly became one of the most played games on Xbox – a remarkable achievement given the game is still under development. Building on the success of the first Grounded, the sequel takes place in a new area called Brookhollow Park, offering players plenty of mysteries to discover as they progress through the story. The developers at Obsidian are using the Early Access period to refine the game with regular updates, and this latest one is a part of that process.

The new 0.2.2 update is now available and primarily sets the stage for the upcoming Winter Update in Grounded 2, as outlined in Obsidian’s Early Access roadmap. Obsidian describes this as a “Feature Update,” meaning it’s designed to improve how the game runs and add new ways to play, rather than adding a lot of new content. It’s a smaller update focused on building a solid foundation for future additions.

With the latest update, players will instantly feel a festive, winter atmosphere thanks to the return of holiday decorations from the original Grounded, like the Holiday Tree. The update also reintroduces the Coziness System, which improves base building by adding levels that unlock new benefits and decorations. Currently, players can achieve up to three levels of Coziness in their base, with a fourth level coming in the Winter Update. Here’s how it works:

Level 1:

  • Fireplace Hearth and Core Chimney Pieces
  • Coziness Hunger Rate Buff
  • Clover Awning Pieces

Level 2:

  • Thatch Chimney Roof Pieces
  • Thatch Awnings
  • Acorn Shelf
  • Coziness Thirst Rate Buff
  • Bunk Bed

Level 3:

  • Crow Chimney Roof Chimney pieces
  • Crow Awnings Pieces
  • Trash Can
  • Picture Frame
  • Scorpion Lamp
  • Scorpion Chair
  • Scorpion Bed

Update 0.2.2 for Grounded 2 improves performance and fixes bugs, but also brings major changes to how the PEEP.R system works. You can now view creatures in both first and third-person, and a new Chopping list and dynamic compass will help you navigate. The resource tracker now shows nearby items you’ve marked, and the PEEP.R will display all your backpacks after you die, not just the one you dropped. Plus, you can customize the display to hide trail markers on the screen.

This December’s update is mainly setting the stage for the bigger Winter Update coming next month. Currently, the only official information available is from July’s roadmap, as Obsidian plans to share more details about the Winter Update in January 2026, so some things may have evolved. Players are hoping the update will include new insects like earwigs and crickets, plus more furniture and decorations for their bases. They’re also anticipating improved equipment and new gameplay features. There’s even a chance we’ll see the Ladybug Buggy, which the developers have teased, offering players another way to travel the game world.
