Guilty Gear Strive Has Big Limitation on Switch

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt and a Nintendo Switch as my faithful companion, I must confess that the lack of crossplay support for Guilty Gear Strive leaves me feeling like a lone wolf in a pack of alpha wolves. It’s disheartening to know that I won’t be able to duke it out with friends who prefer other platforms. However, knowing that the game runs on rollback netcode gives me some solace, as I’ll at least have a relatively smooth gaming experience online.

Arc System Works has clarified that the forthcoming Nintendo Switch adaptation of “Guilty Gear Strive,” set for release in 2025, will not include crossplay functionality. One of Arc System Works’ most well-liked fighting games, “Guilty Gear Strive” from 2021, is now making its way to the Nintendo Switch after being unveiled at PAX West.

According to producer Ken Miyauchi’s tweet, it has been confirmed that the Nintendo Switch edition of Guilty Gear Strive won’t allow cross-platform play. However, Miyauchi emphasizes that the Switch version does employ rollback netcode for a relatively seamless online gameplay experience. Furthermore, he mentions that the footage showcased in the Switch version’s trailer was personally captured by him.

Guilty Gear Strive Has No Crossplay on Switch

There are numerous fighting games available on the Nintendo Switch, including titles like Mortal Kombat 1, Fighting EX Layer, and Melty Blood: Type Lumina, all of which utilize rollback netcode. Some games such as Samurai Shodown and Dragon Ball FighterZ initially didn’t have rollback netcode on the Switch, but they received a rollback netcode patch after their release.

Modern gaming is moving towards a more unified landscape, enabling players to compete against each other regardless of their chosen platform. For instance, games such as “Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid” offer crossplay and rollback netcode, making it possible to play across PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC editions of the game. Meanwhile, “Strive” currently supports crossplay between its console and PC versions, although the Switch version may not have crossplay to preserve the existing quality of play. In the near future, players can anticipate the fourth season of “Strive,” which introduces Lucy from “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” as an unforeseen additional fighter.
