Gunfire Reborn: Nona Character & Build Guide

Gunfire Reborn: Nona Character & Build Guide

As a seasoned veteran of Gunfire Reborn, I can confidently say that the Hardwood Missiles build for Iron Wing is a game-changer. Having dabbled with various builds over countless hours, I can attest to its effectiveness, especially in those nail-biting late-game encounters.

In the game Gunfire Reborn, Nona is a character that becomes available when you purchase the Artisans and Magicians DLC. If you’re fond of massive robots, then you’ll enjoy this character as she’s designed to work seamlessly with her personal AI-controlled robot, Iron Wing.

Enthusiasts of the game Titanfall will undoubtedly appreciate the character Nona, as her special ability involves her mech descending upon foes in a manner reminiscent of a Titan. The supportive Iron Wing will always be by Nona’s side. Consequently, choosing which weapons to equip and strategies for building Nona effectively can be challenging for a triumphant journey in Gunfire Reborn.

Iron Wing

In contrast to the other characters in “Gunfire Reborn”, Nona is accompanied by a mech called Iron Wing. This mech resuscitates Nona when she’s downed, and if Iron Wing falls, Nona can resurrect it as long as she reaches it within 12 seconds. If Iron Wing gets completely destroyed, Nona will be able to revive her companion after a 20-second delay.

The mechanical companion, Iron Wing, operates in two distinct modes: Fire Mode and Strike Mode. Initially, Iron Wing will function in Strike Mode, accompanying Nona and attacking enemies whenever possible. Upon activation of its skill, Mecha Drop, it descends upon targets with a showy display before taunting the survivors. Early on, this skill can greatly aid Nona in clearing stages. However, as enemies become more powerful, caution is advised when employing this skill to ensure Iron Wing’s survival.

Replacing Iron Wing to Fire (Turret) mode converts it into a stationary gun, enabling the Iron Wing to aim and fire at distant adversaries. During this state, its skill will change from Mecha Drop to Reposition. Utilizing its ability in this phase causes it to teleport to the designated location, followed by a salvo of Hardwood Missiles upon landing. This form is advantageous when Nona requires Iron Wing to perform more of a supportive role, taking out low-health mobs and dealing significant damage to larger enemies. For areas where distant or chokepoint-bound melee foes appear, it’s beneficial to switch Iron Wing into turret mode to inflict maximum damage before reverting it back to Strike Mode.

Hardwood Missiles

Nona’s missiles serve as one of her key abilities, capable of either healing Iron Wing or inflicting damage. Initially, their power is quite substantial, but they need enhancements to keep growing in potency as levels progress. The advantage here lies in the speed and frequency at which Nona can fire these missiles. With the right configurations, Nona can transform into a missile-spewing powerhouse, easily cutting through most enemy groups using nothing but her missiles.

Weapon Recommendations

Pistols And Rifles Are King

Because Nona’s Precision tree provides her with boosts when she wields pistols, gamers should aim to secure a reliable pistol early in their gameplay sessions. Once they have a suitable pistol, they can consider diversifying their loadout by selecting another weapon for the secondary slot.

For builds aiming to enhance weapon damage, particularly with pistols, they might consider an additional pistol filling a distinct role compared to their primary one. Similarly, for builds focusing on Hardwood Missiles or Iron Wing, it could be beneficial to have a long-distance weapon such as a sniper rifle in their arsenal.

As a gamer, I can’t help but share some top-notch weapon choices that have left an impression on me. Whether you’re seeking a reliable pistol or a weapon to suit your gaming build, these outstanding options won’t disappoint!

WeaponWeapon TypeReasoning
Arc LightPistolAll of the kunai-style pistols are amazing with Nona, but the Arc Light in particular is great because it can help cover both crowds of enemies and single targets without relying on the geometry of the map in the way Prism would. The pistol typing with a low magazine size also allows it to synergize with Nona’s precision passives, specifically, Magazine Modification.
Icy SpearPistolGuaranteed crits when the spears are recalled; synergizes extremely well with Nona’s Precision passives.
SunderPistolPistol-reliant builds of Nona can struggle against durable crowds, which is exactly where Sunder excels.
Star RingPistolThe Star Ring is a risky weapon to build with since it has a short range compared to every other weapon. As a result, it should be paired with another weapon that has a longer range for bosses where the close range becomes a death sentence. However, this weapon’s damage output and large area-of-effect make it well worth using if players are confident in their movement and Iron Wing management to get out of bad situations.
Lightning KsanaSniper RifleThe Lightning Ksana gives Iron Wing a shield when the player shoots it. Critical hits and the shield being destroyed grants charges that increase the damage of the weapon. This weapon is perfect for builds that want to lean on Iron Wing because it keeps Nona out of harm’s way, deals a good chunk of damage with each shot, and keeps Iron Wing around longer.

Ascension And Occult Scroll Recommendations

Melt Enemies With Pistols, Crush Them With Iron Wing, Or Drown Them In Rockets

In the later stages of play, Nona might struggle with scalability. Although Iron Wing and Hardwood Missiles perform well in the initial phase, tough enemies in the late game can absorb numerous missile attacks without issue, and easily deplete Iron Wing’s health if the player isn’t strategic about which abilities they choose to use.

In the early stages of play, Nona players should focus on finding two types of enhancements: those that boost her and Iron Wing’s durability, and those that improve her damage output over time. Early in the game, both Specialized Shield and Wood Armor are valuable choices for enhancing Nona due to their contribution to survivability. Depending on the available ascensions and scrolls, players can then choose from among three primary build paths (with some flexibility for combining aspects of each).

Pistol-Focused Build

Ascensions To Prioritize

  • Magazine Mod
  • Eagle Eye
  • Energy Overload

Best Scrolls For Weapon Damage

  • Hawkeye Sight
  • Penetration Bullet
  • Merciless Strike
  • Bullet Light
  • Large Ammo

For pistol builds, boosting Critical Hit Multiplier, gun damage, and eventually Lucky Break’s Lucky Shot percentage is essential. Regardless of aiming skills, the Magazine Mod offers a significant power surge that harmonizes with any Kunai-style pistols or Icy Spear. Eagle Eye benefits all players, regardless of their aiming proficiency. Skilled FPS players using Eagle Eye can expect nearly a 50% increase in weapon damage consistently, while less experienced players will find their shots more reliable and damage output steadier.

If you’re unsure about the right ability to choose early in the game, selecting Energy Overload is generally a safe choice. This ascension skill is versatile and can fit into most character builds. However, it works particularly well as a transition between a weapon-based build and an Iron Wing-focused build, or between a Missile and an Iron Wing-focused build.

Iron Wing Build

Ascensions To Prioritize

  • Mastery
  • Wood Armor
  • Charging Crush
  • Specialized Shield for comfort

Best Scrolls For Iron Wing

  • Abnormal Speed
  • Piercing Bullet
  • Surprise Bonus

While Wood Armor is always useful to pick up early for any build, being offered the Mastery Ascension is a tell-tale sign to lean into an Iron Wing-focused build. Mastery simply increases how much damage Iron Wing can deal on its own. Charging Crush increases that damage in Strike Mode, and finding both Wood Armor and Specialized Shield will give Iron Wing the survivability to deal that damage.

To maximize Iron Wing’s damage output, consider enhancing it with three options: agile reloading (Nimble Fingers), shoulder cannon enhancement (Shoulder Cannon Upgrade), and missile barrage (Missile Storm). Keep in mind that Nimble Fingers works best with weapons capable of reloading. The Shoulder Cannon Upgrade and Missile Storm will boost Iron Wing’s damage when it is set to Fire Mode, so be strategic about switching between these modes if you choose to take these upgrades.

For most character builds, Occult Scrolls are quite straightforward. However, for those specializing in Iron Wing, any item or ability that boosts their movement speed or skill damage is particularly beneficial. The Iron Wing build gains from both these stats, and with the Battle Pace, Nona will not only move faster but also deal increased damage when building movement speed.

Hardwood Missiles Build

Ascensions To Prioritize

  • Heavy Modification
  • Heat Core
  • Missile Storm
  • Force Recovery

Best Scrolls For Hardwood Missiles

  • Double Exhilaration
  • Enduring Caster
  • Surprise Bonus
  • Extra Surprise
  • Energy Sandals
  • Untold Effort

In the later stages of gameplay, Hardwood Missiles are primarily fortified with two essential components: the Heat Core and the Heavy Modification. The Heat Core enhances the destructive power and blast radius of Hardwood Missiles, whereas the Heavy Modification empowers the player to swiftly discharge a continuous barrage of missiles towards the closest enemy swarm.

In simple terms, Missile Storm enhances the destructive power of both Nona’s and Iron Wing’s missiles, whereas Force Recovery offers an abundance of ammunition and a safe way to replenish missiles, shielding Nona from any potential loss. For this strategy, it’s wise to focus on enhancing the firepower of Iron Wing’s projectiles or Nona’s weapon damage to conserve rockets for tackling other adversaries.

Among the three builds I’m particularly fond of, it’s the Hardwood Missile build that stands to gain the most from hoarding Occult Scrolls. These scrolls can either amplify the damage of my Hardwood Missiles or boost the number of missiles I can unleash. In fact, any of these scrolls, along with some weapon-related ones, all have a significant impact on Missile-based gameplay.

General Playstyle Tips

Some Tips To Keep In Mind For Iron Wing’s Sake

Gunfire Reborn: Nona Character & Build Guide
  • Don’t hesitate to unload Hardwood Missiles into a group of enemies fighting Iron Wing. Clearing enemies quickly can give more missiles and any missiles that hit Iron Wing will heal it.
  • Activating Iron Wing’s ability can also be used to save it. Find a location that’s far away from the enemy that’s hurting Iron Wing, swap the mech to turret mode then order them to teleport to that location. They’re now out of harm’s way and will be providing the player with fire support.
  • Stay out of fights early on. While Iron Wing is more than capable of clearing entire rooms by itself, Nona starts with slightly worse stats than the majority of the cast. Look for more survivability ascensions and items, and let Iron Wing handle the early levels.
  • Smart positioning is heavily rewarded with Nona. Look for choke points, high ground, or any place where a turret from Iron Wing can be devastating. Creating more space and forcing enemies to charge at Nona and Iron Wing is ideal.
  • Don’t be afraid to let Iron Wing die. Iron Wing will come back in 20 seconds. If there were enough strong enemies to down Iron Wing, then there’s a good chance Nona would also not survive a close-range encounter with them.
  • Alternatively, if Nona is about to go down, aim to go down near Iron Wing since it can revive the player without using a self-resurrection.
