Gunzilla Games is responding to claims that some developers on their game, Off The Grid, weren’t paid. CEO Vlad Korolev released a statement calling the reports “haters” and suggesting the situation is complicated, but he didn’t explicitly confirm or deny the payment allegations.
Gunzilla Games, a European game studio with offices in London, Kyiv, and Frankfurt, was established in 2020. As of spring 2026, the company employs over 200 people, based on information from LinkedIn. Their first game, a free-to-play crypto battle royale shooter called Off The Grid, was initially released on consoles in October 2024 and later on PC in July 2025. However, in early April 2026, multiple current and former employees reported on LinkedIn that they hadn’t received payment for their work on the game for several months, and were aware of others facing the same issue.
Gunzilla CEO Defends Studio Over Payment Disputes
On April 9th, Gunzilla CEO Vlad Korolev responded to claims that the company hadn’t paid its workers. In a long post on X (formerly Twitter), he said the accusations were an attempt to harm both Gunzilla and their game, Off The Grid. However, he also admitted that some recent payments were made based on the company’s available funds, not necessarily when workers expected them. Korolev stated this was simply a reflection of current financial realities, effectively confirming that some developers who worked on Off The Grid still haven’t received payment.
Korolev explained that as of April 2026, Gunzilla had been actively managing costs for over a year, which he said is typical for game development. He described the disagreement over payment timing as part of this ongoing cost management. The CEO also clarified that different teams within the company were handled differently, and emphasized that full-time employees had always been paid on time – never more than a week late – throughout the company’s history.
Even though Korolev has defended Gunzilla and dismissed worries about its financial health as negativity from critics, his recent statement isn’t a complete reassurance. He also apologized to anyone negatively impacted by the company’s actions. It’s still unknown when developers working on Off The Grid will receive payments they are owed, and the total number of contractors affected by delayed payments due to Gunzilla’s cost-cutting measures remains unclear.

Although Gunzilla was facing financial difficulties, the company surprisingly brought back Game Informer in March 2025. They bought the brand from GameStop, rehired the original staff, and saved the publication’s entire history, all while promising editorial freedom. Because of this recent effort to present themselves as a reliable force in gaming media, the current accusations surrounding their game, Off The Grid, are particularly concerning and seem contradictory.
