H2M Creator: Activision Was Worried Mod Would ‘Interfere’ With Black Ops 6 Sales

As a gamer with a lifelong passion for Call of Duty and modding communities, I am absolutely devastated by Activision’s recent decision to shut down the H2M Modern Warfare 2 Remastered mod. It feels like they’ve snatched away the keys to my gaming paradise just when I was about to take a joyride!

In a recent video by Watchful Wolf, the creator behind the H2M ‘Modern Warfare 2 Remastered’ mod, explained why Activision issued a cease and desist order. Last week, this eagerly awaited multiplayer mod that had been generating excitement was abruptly halted when Activision Blizzard demanded it be closed down, citing the potential for legal action.

Well, let me tell you, I was pretty shocked when I learned that Activision decided to shut down their project. To be honest, their justification seemed more like self-serving nonsense than anything else.

Protecting Sales

In the YouTube video posted below, Watchful Wolf explains the cease and desist order issued to the team prior to launching H2M, their proposed Modern Warfare 2 mod. This would have been an exceptional recreation of Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer, skillfully designed within Call of Duty 4 Remastered, but Activision didn’t appreciate the potential controversy.

Here’s what Watchful Wolf said was the reason behind the C&D:

Fundamentally, given the growing fame of H2M and its resemblance to Black Ops 6, they decided it was best not to launch H2M simultaneously as doing so might affect potential sales of Black Ops 6, taking into account factors like marketing and beta phases.

As a dedicated gamer, I’d put it this way: “Regardless of the game we chose for our project, Activision was going to shut us down anyway because they’re not willing to risk anything interfering with the launch of Black Ops 6 on October 25th. They’re all about that sweet, sweet sales revenue.”

Here’s the full video:

In a brief span, H2M garnered significant buzz, causing popular content creators to produce videos featuring gameplay. This fueled excitement for the mod and boosted the sales of Call of Duty 4 Remastered on Steam, as acquiring the H2M mod was contingent upon owning this remastered version.

Despite Activision’s order for the project’s shutdown and the team complying with this directive, somehow the game H2M was leaked online, making it playable in a roundabout way.
