As a seasoned player of Hades 2, I must say that the Olympic Update has been nothing short of a game-changer. The addition of the ability to interact with Hypnos and potentially wake him from his centuries-long slumber is an exciting new layer to the game’s rich lore.

A substantial volume of content has been introduced with the Olympic Update – the primary content expansion for Hades 2, which followed its Early Access debut in early 2024. Beyond what was shown in the trailer and detailed in the patch notes, there are a couple of sneaky new features yet to be discovered – such as an attempt to awaken Hypnos.

In the wake of the launch of Hades 2’s Early Access, Hypnos has been slumbering peacefully in his chair. However, an opportunity arises for Melinoë to rouse this sleeping deity and discover more about his recent activities. Although we can’t awaken Hypnos permanently within Hades 2 at the moment, this update signals the beginning of what seems to be a brief quest series aimed at waking Hypnos.

What Happens When You “Wake” Hypnos In Hades 2?

During the initial phase of Hades 2‘s Early Access, Hypnos was in a deep slumber and barely responsive to interactions. He could be located to the north of the Garden and the entrance to Melinoë’s training grounds. However, prior to the Olympic Update, any attempts to interact with him would simply result in his snoring loudly, and any gifts offered would be rejected.

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the Olympic Update, which introduces a fresh Incantation that allows for a unique engagement with Hypnos. Now, Melinoë can bestow upon him Dream Vapors, concocted using this new incantation. It’s said that these potent fumes will stir Hypnos from his profound sleep.

Yet upon bestowal, it won’t stir the deity of Sleep from his slumber; rather, Melinoë will access a dreamlike manifestation of the House of Hades.

Delve into this concealed location to discover the peaceful figure of Hypnos, resting even within this dreamlike world. Engage with Hypnos for a few fresh lines of conversation amidst his drowsy mumbling, and you’ll find yourself transported back to The Crossroads.

In the upcoming stages of early access for Hades 2, it’s expected that the Hypnos questline will progress further, and this guide will be regularly updated to reflect new steps required to awaken Hypnos in Hades 2.

How To Unlock End to Deepest Slumber Incantation In Hades 2

After updating Olympic Hades 2, logging in won’t instantly grant the End To Deepest Slumber incantation. To unlock this feature, there are two requirements: first, attempt to offer Hypnos nectar on two separate occasions; secondly, obtain at least one Poppy.

  • Nectar can be acquired from various rooms throughout the underworld and surface, by purchasing them from the Shop with Bones, or via the Golden Apple To Nectar Incantation.
  • Poppy Seeds can only be found in the underworld zone Tartarus, the fourth and final zone before facing Chronos. Bring the Shovel with you for a higher chance to find Poppy seeds on a run.

After fulfilling these two conditions, converse with Hypnos each time you return to the Crossroads until Melinoë contemplates attempting this Sleep Incantation. Return to the Cauldron (when Hecate isn’t occupying it) to discover the Deepest Sleep Charm within reach.

How To Get Dream Vapors & Wake Hypnos

Creating the Dream Vapors item with the Deep Sleep Charm needs 3 Poppies, 2 Mandrake roots, and a single Moly.

  • Harvest 3x Poppy Seeds in Tartarus, the final zone in the underworld route, and plant them in your Garden
  • Harvest 2x Mandrake Seeds in the Rift of Thessaly, the second zone of the surface route, and plant them in your Garden
  • Harvest 1x Moly within Erebus, the first zone on the underworld route

Try performing another task such as running errands or giving a unique token to any Non-Player Character (NPC) to help pass time and allow your plants to grow. Upon returning to the Crossroads, collect your Poppy and Mandrake (remember to carry one Moly), then unlock “End To Deepest Slumber”. Once you’ve gathered your Dream Vapors, make your way to Hypnos and offer it as a gift to initiate the House of Hades flashback sequence.
