According to Supergiant Games, the upcoming sequel to Hades, titled Hades 2, will initially be released as a timed-exclusive on Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. Currently available in early access on PC, Hades 2 follows a similar pattern as its predecessor, which initially premiered on the Switch in 2020 before appearing on other platforms in 2021. The full release of Hades 2 is scheduled for later this year, although an exact date has not been specified yet.
Back in May 2024, I dived into the world of Hades 2 for PC gaming enthusiasts like me. Come October, Mac gamers joined us in this epic journey. Ever since then, this game has been constantly evolving thanks to player feedback and its roadmap, with updates rolling out regularly.
New content abounds! The Xinth weapon, the Olympus region, encounters with iconic characters such as Athena, Dionysus, and Prometheus, new familiars, and a richer storyline are just some of the additions that have already graced us in early access.
Incredibly, Hades 2 has drawn over 100,000 concurrent players on Steam – that’s double the CCU numbers compared to its predecessor! But console warriors like me will have to exercise patience a bit longer before we can jump into the action.
According to their announcement, Hades 2 is planned as a timed exclusive for both Nintendo Switch and its upcoming model, the Switch 2. This isn’t surprising since the original Hades followed a similar pattern by initially releasing on Switch before appearing on other consoles a year later. Expected to release in 2025, it’s speculated that the sequel will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2026. PC players can expect to play the 1.0 version simultaneously with those for both Switch models. However, for those eager to experience this roguelike on advanced console technology, you’ll have to wait until the launch of the Switch 2.
Hades 2 Will Be a Switch 2 Timed-Console Exclusive at Launch
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled about the upcoming version of Nintendo Switch 2, as I understand it will leverage the latest hardware advancements to enhance my gaming experience. This means that the sequel to Hades, Hades 2, is set to offer high-definition graphics and smooth, responsive gameplay at a consistent 60 FPS. To bolster the initial lineup of third-party games for Switch 2, Nintendo has strategically secured timed exclusivity for titles such as Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, Ridge Racer, and The Duskbloods. This collaboration between Nintendo and Supergiant seems poised to repeat the winning formula of Hades, which was not only a commercial success but also garnered critical acclaim.
The main challenge with the plan to boost third-party game releases on Switch 2 lies in the uncertainty surrounding its official launch in one of its key markets, the United States. As a result of Trump’s tariffs, Nintendo has announced it is postponing pre-orders for Switch 2 in the US, although the release date remains June 5th. At this point, it is unclear if Nintendo will maintain the same suggested price for the Switch 2 in the US, increase it to cover the tariffs, or if the tariffs will still be enforced two months from now.
