As a devoted fan who grew up with the chilling echoes of Michael Myers’ footsteps, the news of not one but TWO new Halloween games has sent shivers down my spine! It’s been a long wait since the Atari 2600 days, and I can hardly contain my excitement.

The timeless “Halloween” series is set to release two fresh video games. Many consider John Carpenter’s “Halloween” as one of the best slasher movies ever produced, leading to a long-running franchise filled with sequels and remakes. Most of these films revolve around Michael Myers, a masked serial killer who is either the embodiment of evil or simply a troubled individual, and the countless victims entangled in his killing sprees. A video game based on “Halloween” was released for the Atari 2600 in 1983, but none of the film’s characters were identified.

After that point, The Shape’s gaming presence has primarily been as a guest character in various franchises. In the year 2014, Michael Myers made an appearance as a playable character in the DLC pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts, and later found himself alongside other iconic movie killers in Dead by Daylight, including his long-time adversary Laurie Strode. More recently, during the Fortnitemares 2023 event last October, Michael Myers was introduced to Fortnite, joining forces with Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Michael Myers, a horror icon after 35 years, will take center stage in a video game for the first time, following the announcement of two official Halloween-themed gaming projects by IGN. These games are set to be published by Boss Team Games, who successfully released 2022’s Evil Dead: The Game, and developed in collaboration with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, producers of the Halloween franchise. Few details have been revealed at this time, but one project is rumored to utilize Unreal Engine 5, with John Carpenter, the original creator, lending a hand.

2 New Halloween Games Are In Development

John Carpenter, who is passionate about gaming, has openly expressed his fondness for games such as Dead Space, Fallout 76, The Last of Us 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, among others. He also shared the challenges he faced while playing these games. Last year, it was revealed that Carpenter would collaborate with Saber Interactive on a horror shooter game named Toxic Commando. In response to the recent Halloween announcement, Carpenter expressed his excitement about bringing Michael Myers to life in a video game and aims to create a scary experience for players, aiming to “terrify them thoroughly.”

In one of these fresh Halloween-themed games, players can reenact scenes from the initial film and handle iconic characters; however, it remains unclear if this experience includes characters like Laurie or Michael himself. Both games offer numerous possibilities, with a possibility being a horror game in the vein of Alien: Isolation that features asymmetrical play. So far, all we know is that Michael Myers will feature in two upcoming Halloween projects. This means that video game enthusiasts should prepare to confront one of cinema’s most relentless killers within a virtual setting.
