Halo: 15 Strongest Bosses, Ranked

In the game “Halo,” you’ll find numerous tough combat situations. As Master Chief (or other playable characters), it’s your duty to employ the strategic trio of firearms, grenades, and melee attacks to defeat your adversaries. While not typical in “Halo,” these enemies also include several ‘bosses‘.

In this piece, I’ll be ordering the fifteen most formidable adversaries in the Halo series, taking into account those that are pivotal to the storyline, appear as main characters, and have been engaged in direct combat with players during gameplay within an official Halo title.

In simpler terms, this implies that Atriox and Cortana, who are primarily shown in cutscenes without a direct fight or active role, are not considered main characters. Similarly, Banished commanders from Infinite don’t qualify as main characters unless they play significant roles in the main storyline.

In terms of what constitutes an enemy as ‘strong’, it might vary among all players of Halo. I’ll be ranking them based on the difficulty I encountered in defeating them, which doesn’t necessarily mean they have high health or shields; often, it’s about their raw skill or intimidation factor.

Naturally, Halo spoilers follow.

15.
The Didact

Halo 4

In the conclusion of Halo 4, Master Chief encounters the formidable adversary known as the Didact. From your perspective, this character poses the greatest existential danger to humanity. After a series of events where you chase the Forerunner general across Requiem, it’s now time for the ultimate showdown – a battle that could potentially end all battles.

Approaching the climactic battle, I couldn’t help but feel apprehensive. The earlier bosses, such as the relentless Warden Eternals, had given me quite a challenge. I anticipated that this encounter would stretch my patience for several frustrating hours.

However, quite surprisingly, overcoming the Didact proves to be remarkably simple. This occurs through a captivating QuickTime Event, where you simply press keys as instructed, and savor the expertly designed (albeit brief) cinematic cutscene that follows.

From a gaming perspective, I found it somewhat underwhelming. The Didact isn’t high on my list due to his strength, but the fighting mechanics during our encounters didn’t meet the expectations set by the campaign’s build-up.

343 Guilty Spark

Halo 3

At long last, Master Chief, alongside Cortana, finds themselves at the heart of the ring. They are accompanied by their reliable companion, Sergeant Johnson, and their guide, 343 Guilty Spark – who’s been by your side through three games. However, an unexpected twist occurs, taking things in a startling direction.

343 Guilty Spark turns against the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and ends up slaying your longtime comrade, Sergeant Johnson. This act of treachery is among the most impactful in the entire Halo franchise, leaving Master Chief with no choice but to battle for his own survival.

Initially, this encounter held the promise of a formidable battle against a tough boss. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that the odds are heavily in your favor, almost to the point where failure is unlikely. You spin around, grab the Spartan Laser abandoned by Sergeant Johnson, and effortlessly vanquish your adversary with just a handful of predetermined bursts.

I placed Guilty Spark here due to his robust health as a formidable boss. There’s a risk of missing your shots, running out of ammo, or standing still and falling victim to his laser beam, which would force you to restart from the previous checkpoint. Even though it seems straightforward, remaining calm or overconfident could lead to defeat.

13.
Prophet of Regret

Halo 2

In the middle of Halo 2, you confront The Prophet of Regret, a significant figure within the Covenant cult, who was masterminding humanity’s demise. Prior to this encounter, Master Chief had been relentlessly fighting through hordes of Covenant soldiers in an ancient Forerunner temple.

He’s merely seated on his floating seat (apologies for the term ‘gravity throne’), barking out commands. Without any traditional weapons, the Prophet of Regret doesn’t seem particularly formidable as a boss. However, the continuous stream of Honor Guards and energy bursts create quite a test if you don’t maintain your agility.

As a gamer, I can tell you it’s quite straightforward to bring down those Honor Guards. I’ve found that wielding two plasma rifles makes short work of them. When it comes to Regret, all I need is his gravity throne and a good old-fashioned melee button bash – over and over again! That’s the key!

As a gamer, I’d say The Prophet of Regret isn’t exactly top-tier due to its peculiar nature rather than its difficulty. Story-wise, it holds significance, but once you crack the code on the melee strategy, it’s a swift and easy victory.

12.
Adjutant Resolution

Halo Infinite

In the game Halo Infinite, you encounter Adjutant Resolution on more than one occasion. But it’s not until you’re inside a Forerunner structure that protects the Conservatory where you have your first significant battle.

You run into Adjutant Resolution several times while playing Halo Infinite. However, it’s not until you enter a Forerunner structure that safeguards the Conservatory that you find yourself in a real fight.

Overhead, a Resolution Adjutant unleashes laser beams from its cannons and deploys auxiliary drones to distract you. Maintain your focus, and you’ll remain in control of the situation.

Continue striking his arms to make him unable to use his weapons, and hide behind safety to dodge the laser beams. Wait until he’s stunned, then aim for the unprotected center. Opt for electric weapons or Skewer shots to defeat him more swiftly.

The primary concern with the Adjutant Resolution lies in its agility, however, once you discern his routine, it loses most of its impact. It’s an engaging battle, yet not excessively tough. In truth, I believe it’s intended to be more humorous than intense.

11.
Sesa ‘Refumee

Halo 2

In the course of the Arbiter campaign within Halo 2, you’ll delve into a renegade base suspended over Threshold. It is here that you encounter Sesa ‘Refumee, an Elite who was once a devout follower but has since become a rebel, combating the deceptions surrounding the mystery of the rings propagated by the Covenant.

In this scenario, the Prophet assigns the Arbiter the mission of subduing him. However, the irony lies in the fact that the person being fought is someone who has come to know the truth. Eventually, the Arbiter recognizes that Sesa ‘Refumee might have been correct all along and decides to join his side instead.

As a devoted admirer, I must say that Refumee isn’t your typical tough guy. Instead, he employs drones capable of projecting holograms, making it tricky to locate him. My advice would be to disregard the deceptions, keep yourself concealed, and bide your time until Refumee reveals himself. Once that happens, strike swiftly and with force. It’s essential to remember that he doesn’t require many hits before he falls.

Sesa makes the cut on my list as he feels more like engaging in a regular Elite encounter instead of a traditional boss battle. From a narrative standpoint, he offers an immersive and emotional experience, but lacks the challenging nature you’d expect from a Halo boss character. He isn’t overly powerful or difficult to defeat.

10.
Merg Vol

Halo: Spartan Assault

In the game Draetheus V, Merg Vol represents the top-tier devotee, serving as the last Covenant commander you encounter. Prior to your encounter with him, you must first navigate and overcome an enormous wave of Covenant opposition.

He’s exceptionally powerful among Halo’s bosses (despite not being featured in popular first-person shooter games on Xbox), primarily due to his overwhelming firepower. To defeat him, you’ll need to devise a strategy for bypassing his robust shields, destructive assaults, and the challenging circumstance that the battle takes place in a cramped area with continuous reinforcements pouring in from all directions.

Secure victory through mobility. Maintain your advantage and save your heavy weaponry for the mass infantry attacks. Break through Vol’s defenses before he gets too close, as his twin energy swords have considerable strength.

Despite being a formidable Halo boss, I discovered that with enough discipline, he could be defeated. In a traditional Halo game, he might prove to be quite challenging, but due to the top-down perspective of Spartan Assault, his intimidation factor is somewhat reduced.

9.
Tremonius

Halo Infinite

In the game Halo Infinite, you’ll encounter a series of campaign battles against bosses, and Tremonius is the initial one you’ll face. You’ll run into this Brute character not long after gaining access to the open-world environment.

Tremonius boasts heavy armor and packs a potent Hydra missile launcher. Given the scarcity of tools and firepower at this stage, it’s clear that the Brutes’ aggressive nature poses a significant threat.

To overcome him effectively, it’s crucial to maximize the usage of your Grappleshot. Always seek cover, gather shock coils for added defense, avoid standing still, and never let yourself get pushed into a tight spot! After some time, you’ll begin to discern his behavioral patterns. Adjust to these patterns, and managing him will become significantly easier.

Tremonius effectively establishes the mood for Halo Infinite, however, in essence, he is merely a precursor boss, serving as a guide to help you prepare for the tougher opponents that lie ahead.

8.
Bassus

Halo Infinite

Moving forward, I introduce another character from Halo Infinite – Bassus, who wields the Gravity Hammer. The build-up involves unsettling audio logs designed to unnerve you.

Indeed, it’s the gravity hammer of Bassus that poses a significant threat in this situation. Approaching too closely to him could result in your immediate demise. Moreover, he possesses considerable strength and speed, making him formidable opponent.

However, you’re dealing with Halo Infinite here, and you’ve got the Grappleshot in your arsenal now. This tool simplifies things significantly. Lure him towards explosives or weaken him by destroying his shields, then finish him off with regular weaponry as per usual.

In simpler terms, Bassus is more powerful than Tremonius, but if you can use the Grappleshot quickly, it becomes relatively simple to outwit him. He may be strong, but if you maintain your composure and follow proper strategy, there will be no issues to deal with.

7.
Chak ‘Lok

Halo Infinite

Oh boy, that part really gave me a start! The character here is known as Chak ‘Lok, an elite assassin. He catches you off guard in a dimly lit, confined cell within a prison where he has been tormenting and killing captured United Nations Space Command (UNSC) soldiers with a cruel twist.

Chak “Lok’s camouflage talent truly makes him intimidating, as it thrives in tight spaces and dim light, which enhances the effectiveness of his energy sword.

A crucial point to remember is to maintain composure instead of panicking, as I often did by aimlessly running around and depleting ammunition. Instead, trust the Threat Sensor to locate him and attack with plasma or shock weapons to weaken his defenses when he appears.

Chak “Lok earns this position due to his menacing, intelligent, and overall powerful nature as a Halo boss. He challenges your alertness and proficiency in utilizing your gear. Unlike some subsequent titles, however, he doesn’t prove to be excessively overpowering.

6.
The Harbinger

Halo Infinite

In Halo Infinite, The Harbinger serves as the primary antagonist. Beyond being the one orchestrating the Endless, there isn’t much else known about her character.

In this scenario, the primary issue you’re facing is the formidable adversary known as The Harbinger. Its unique ability to teleport makes it quick, and it also consistently calls for Banished reinforcements. It’s the blend of these characteristics that makes The Harbinger a particularly tough enemy to defeat.

Prioritize managing the crowd initially, then seize any lulls in the nearby activity to zero in on The Harbinger. Employ shock devices and explosives to deal as much harm as possible before she vanishes by teleportation once more.

In essence, this battle isn’t primarily a face-off against your opponent; it’s about keeping the environment under control. If you’re skilled at handling in-game adversaries and have a keen eye for accuracy, you should find this encounter manageable.
