The upcoming game, Halo: Campaign Evolved, will include three new missions that weren’t in the first game. According to the developers, these missions will tell a completely original story. While the Halo series has a rich history with many games and books, the team chose to create something new instead of adapting an existing story from the established lore.
Microsoft revealed the remastered version of Halo on October 24th, and fans quickly reacted with mixed opinions about its changes from the original game. One major difference is the lack of traditional player-versus-player (PvP) multiplayer. The remake introduces a dedicated sprint button and allows for four-player cooperative play. While the core story remains the same – enhanced with improved motion capture and voice acting – three new missions have been added to expand on the narrative and provide additional background.
Halo: Campaign Evolved’s Prequel Missions Will Feature New Story, Weapons, and Enemies
I was so excited to hear from Max Szlagor, the Creative Director, over at Windows Central! He confirmed the new missions in Halo: Campaign Evolved will tell a completely fresh story. We saw Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson in the trailer, but didn’t know much about when or where these missions would take place. Szlagor cleared things up a bit, saying the story is actually set over a pretty short period of time. It’s a prequel, so we’ll see things we’ve never seen before, and they’re adding new weapons, enemies, and locations too! I can’t wait to find out more.
It’s currently unknown whether the weapons, enemies, and locations in the new game are entirely new to the Halo universe or just to the first Halo game, Combat Evolved. While the story will be original, the game’s setting should feel familiar to longtime fans. This is a shift for recent Halo games, which often pull content from novels published by 343 Industries. Game Director Greg Hermann suggests the prequel missions might still draw inspiration from these books – perhaps revisiting events like the fall of Reach – but the game won’t simply retell existing stories from other Halo sources.
I’m so excited for the Halo: Combat Evolved remake! It’s not just about the new prequel missions, the developers are actually fixing The Library! Seriously, that mission was notoriously frustrating in the original, so this is huge news. We’ll all get to experience the improvements when the game finally comes out in 2026, and I can’t wait!
