As a big fan of both Halo and Battlefield, I was really disappointed to hear that Marcus Lehto, one of the original creators of Halo, is calling out EA. Apparently, the credits for Battlefield 6 didn’t properly acknowledge the team at Ridgeline Games who put in a lot of work on the game. It sounds like EA combined a bunch of studios to try and make Battlefield 6 something special after years of development, but not everyone who helped got the credit they deserved. It’s a shame when hard work doesn’t get recognized!
The newest Battlefield game has had a successful launch, selling 7 million copies and generating around $350 million in revenue in just five days. This followed a well-received public test and a lot of pre-release excitement. However, the launch hasn’t been entirely smooth, as concerns are being raised about a studio seemingly being left out of the game’s credits by a long-time industry professional.
Halo Co-Creator Criticizes Battlefield 6 for Not Fully Recognizing Laid Off Ridgeline Games Staff
Marcus Lehto, a co-creator of Halo, shared his frustration on LinkedIn, stating that the team at Ridgeline Games wasn’t given proper credit for their extensive work on Battlefield 6. Although some former Ridgeline developers are listed in the game’s credits, they only appear in a ‘Special Thanks’ section. Lehto notes that even this acknowledgment isn’t complete, as some contributors – including himself – were left out. He quietly left Ridgeline Games in 2024, but the studio had already started developing the game’s story at that point. While the extent of his influence on the narrative is unknown, Lehto and the rest of the Ridgeline team contributed to the game but aren’t fully recognized in the final credits.

It’s especially disappointing for Lehto that he wasn’t credited, considering his former studio, Ridgeline Games, closed down before Battlefield 6 was released. This happened shortly after he left EA, as the company underwent widespread layoffs. Lehto publicly expressed his shock and sadness about the studio closure and layoffs, stating that the developers involved were highly talented and important to the Battlefield series.

Layoffs are, sadly, a frequent and sensitive issue in the often-unstable gaming industry. Even after Ridgeline Games experienced cuts, Electronic Arts laid off hundreds more employees in 2025 at various studios. Developers working for Microsoft and Tencent have also faced layoffs recently, creating a challenging period for many game developers.
