Halo Fan Spots Neat Weapon Reference in Recent Wolverine Comic

Highlights

  • Halo’s iconic Assault Rifle makes an appearance in a new Wolverine comic, resembling the familiar weapon from the game series.
  • Marvel Comics has featured other Halo weapons in past issues, showcasing the Battle Rifle, Magnum, SMG, and more.
  • Halo’s Energy Sword and Gravity Hammer are additional fan-favorite weapons in the franchise, known for their power in multiplayer battles.

As a long-time fan of both Halo and Marvel Comics, I was absolutely thrilled when I stumbled upon a hidden gem in the recent Wolverine: Blood Hunt comic series. In the third issue, released on July 10, one of the characters, Maverick, wields a weapon that is strikingly similar to Halo’s iconic Assault Rifle.

A devoted fan of “Halo,” with an attentive eye, identified what seemed like a nod to one of the franchise’s most renowned weapons in a newly published “Wolverine” comic. The initial “Halo” game was released back in 2001 as a flagship title for Microsoft’s first Xbox console.

The majority of people are likely to think of Master Chief, the silent and esteemed protagonist of Halo, when they consider this franchise. However, it’s essential not to overlook the iconic weapon that Master Chief has wielded since the series began – none other than the Assault Rifle. Throughout the years, various versions of this weapon have emerged in the games and other projects, even in a cancelled Paramount+ Halo TV show. Surprisingly, it seems the gun has found its way into a new Wolverine comic as well.

In a recent Reddit post, user shadowthehh noted an intriguing similarity between the gun carried by Maverick in issue 3 of “Wolverine: Blood Hunt,” published on July 10, and Halo’s famous Assault Rifle. Despite having a different magazine arrangement, with Maverick’s weapon employing a conventional layout instead of the bullpup design characteristic of Halo’s M5A rifles, the two weapons shared a striking resemblance in overall shape. The comic’s depiction of the gun included many distinct features found on the Assault Rifle, such as its prominent upper housing and handguard, not to mention its extended barrel and integrated flashlight.

Halo Assault Rifle in Marvel Comic Book

A Redditor mentioned that weapons from the Halo video game series have been featured in previous Marvel comics. For instance, Bishop and Cable were depicted using a Battle Rifle, Magnum, SMG, Spartan Laser, and Rocket Launcher in Children of the Vault #3. Another Redditor agreed, pointing out that Marvel Comics often incorporate Halo’s wide range of weapons.

Besides the Assault Rifle, Halo also boasts another legendary video game weapon: the Energy Sword. Notably, Halo’s universe hosts two distinct versions of this weapon – the Type-1 Energy Sword, which is linked to the Elites, and the Gravity Hammer, the Brute’s preferred Energy weapon. In Halo multiplayer communities, both weapons are renowned for their impact, with the Type-1 Energy Sword capable of eliminating opponents with just one strike and the Gravity Hammer being a fan favorite among Covenant weapons.

The most recent addition to the Halo series, released in 2021 by 343 Industries, is called Halo Infinite. Upcoming major changes to this shooter game include Operation: Fleetcom, scheduled for release on July 30th. This update brings back two popular game modes, VIP and Headhunter, which have been featured in previous versions. Additionally, it enhances the Forge mode significantly with numerous quality-of-life improvements. Furthermore, over a thousand voice lines from Halo’s renowned multiplayer announcer, Jeff Steitzer, will be added to the editor.
