Halo Infinite 2 Was In Development Before Being Cancelled, It’s Claimed

As a longtime Halo fan with countless hours spent battling the Covenant across various galaxies, I must say, the news about Halo Infinite 2 being cancelled to move to Unreal Engine 5 leaves me feeling like Master Chief lost his trusty Mjolnir armor – vulnerable and uncertain.

343 Industries, previously known as Halo Studios, had been developing the follow-up to Halo Infinite. However, a recent allegation suggests that Halo Infinite 2 was being worked on before its eventual cancellation.

As a dedicated gamer and long-time follower of Rebs Gaming’s Halo coverage, I can share some exciting insights about Halo Infinite. Previously, there was talk about Halo Infinite 2 being developed using the Slipspace Engine, which was initially introduced for the first Infinite game. However, that development continued until a significant leadership change in late 2022. At this point, the decision was made to shift the franchise to Unreal Engine 5. Unfortunately, this move resulted in the cancellation of Halo Infinite 2 on Slipspace.

Rebs mentioned that the creative team at 343 had been honing their skills in Unreal Engine 5 for several months to get ready for the upcoming project. However, this came to an end when Microsoft made substantial layoffs in January 2023, which affected the entire creative team at 343.

There’s some debate about whether the next major Halo game is Halo Infinite 2, remade using Unreal Engine 5, or an entirely new game in the series.

The report additionally noted that the dismissed campaign team perceived they hadn’t received support from the fresh management at the studio.

The campaign team found themselves isolated, lacking collaboration across the entire studio and a clear understanding of the current situation and future strategies at the studio,” he explained.

As a gamer, I’ve picked up on some rumors that new campaign content might be contracted out without any backup team being assembled.

TopMob has reached out to Halo Studios for comment on this report.

I’m curious about the rumors swirling around that Halo Infinite 2 might be shelved to transition to Unreal Engine 5. How do you feel about this potential shift? Share your thoughts below, or hop into our lively conversation on the TopMob Forums!
