Halo Infinite’s New Weapons Leak Explained

Halo Infinite's New Weapons Leak Explained

As a seasoned Halo fan with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the potential addition of these three new weapons to Halo Infinite has me practically jumping for joy! The Mutilator, Fuel Rod Cannon, and MA5K Avenger all hold a special place in the annals of Halo lore, and their inclusion would undoubtedly breathe fresh life into the game’s multiplayer scene.

Over the span of approximately 3 years since its release, Halo Infinite has introduced only a handful of new play area items and weapons, despite being a free-to-play live service game. In terms of equipment, 343 Industries has incorporated the Quantum Translocator (similar to the Threat Sensor), the Shroud Screen (resembling smoke bombs), the Threat Seeker (like a more advanced version of the Threat Sensor), and the Repair Field attachment (similar to the Regenerator). The only new weapon added so far is the Bandit Rifle and the Bandit EVO, which are essentially unscoped and scoped versions of the DMR from Halo: Reach. However, it seems that Halo Infinite’s lack of new weapons may soon be addressed, as rumors suggest three new weapons will be introduced shortly based on recent leaks.

Halo Infinite’s Potential New Weapons

Based on information from reliable source Surasia, who is known for leaking Halo details, it’s possible that game developer 343 Industries could be adding a much-anticipated weapon – the double-barrel shotgun Mutilator – to Halo Infinite soon. This weapon has been previously mentioned in the game’s files and has been a subject of adjustments for quite some time, along with the popular Falcon air vehicle. A recent reference to the Mutilator hints that it might be officially introduced into the game for players to use very soon. With the code being discovered so close to the Halo World Championship on October 4th-6th, many fans speculate that the Mutilator might be formally unveiled with a release date during the Sandbox overhaul panel at the event. However, it’s not just the Mutilator; Surasia’s leaks also revealed other new weapons for Halo Infinite.

Alongside the Mutilator was the classic Covenant anti-armor weapon the Fuel Rod Cannon. This alien rocket launcher has also been found in Infinite‘s files sporting the Type-58 Gespu-pattern model from Halo 5: Guardians’ iteration of the weapon. That appearance may receive a more Banished overhaul if it’s officially integrated, as most alien weapons in Infinite are at least slightly modified compared to their Covenant counterparts. The Fuel Rod Cannon is additionally expected to have some role in the upcoming Halo World Championship, but if it is released soon, the Fuel Rod Cannon will be the first new Covenant weapon introduced into Infinite’s multiplayer.

The Rumored MA5K Avenger

As a gamer, I’ve got my eyes peeled on the latest Halo leaks, and one that really caught my attention is the MA5K Avenger. Originally unveiled in the 2006 novel “Halo: Ghosts of Onyx”, this baby shares some resemblance with the MA5K Carbine but packs a bigger punch. Unlike its namesake, the Covenant Carbine, the MA5K Avenger isn’t semi-automatic; it’s fully automatic, more like the Assault Rifle we all know and love. It may be related to Halo’s array of Assault Rifles, but Surasia’s leak classifies it as an SMG. As for when we might get our hands on this beast, no official word has been given yet.

In the game Halo: Combat Evolved, the Fuel Rod Cannon was initially introduced, however, it wasn’t playable during the campaign as the weapon would explode if a Grunt accidentally dropped it.

The Mutilator, Fuel Rod Cannon, and MA5K’s Roles in Halo Infinite

343 Industries, since the beginning of Halo Infinite, has aimed to create a weapon system that offers a more balanced and streamlined experience compared to the crowded and repetitive arsenal seen in Halo 5. This decision led to several iconic weapons being left out during development, but there’s speculation that these could find their place in Slayer matches within Infinite without causing redundancy. For instance, the MA5K could serve as a close-quarters counterpart to weapons like the Assault Rifle and Commando Rifle, much like the SMG did in Halo 5. If this is the case, 343 might introduce an MA5K model in Infinite’s store that resembles an SMG more closely, similar to how the M99A2S3 Stanchion was designed for the Sniper Rifle.

The Mutilator, set to debut as a double-barrel shotgun in primary Halo games, stands out not just for this introduction, but also due to an additional feature – a miniature gravity hammer bayonet affixed to its barrel. Despite being smaller and presumably weaker than other gravity hammers in Halo Infinite, this attachment could make the Mutilator exceptionally lethal in close combat situations or against vehicles. On the other hand, the Fuel Rod Cannon has always boasted a unique gameplay aspect – its rods have the propensity to bounce off surfaces before detonating. If this characteristic is retained in Halo Infinite’s version of the Fuel Rod Cannon, it could help maintain its distinctness from weapons like the Rocket Launcher, Hydra, and Skewer.
