Halo Remake Creators Don’t Deny AI Usage

Key people involved in creating the new Halo: Combat Evolved campaign game haven’t responded to questions about whether they’re using AI tools in the development process. The remake is already generating a lot of discussion, and some players who dislike the use of AI in games are now expressing concerns after these recent statements.

After many rumors, a remake of the original Halo game from 2001 was officially announced on October 24th at the 2025 Halo World Championships. The game is planned to launch in 2026 and will not only bring back the title that launched the Xbox, but it will also be the first Halo game ever released on PlayStation.

Generative AI in Halo Remake is Still Unclear

Microsoft’s recent announcement has created excitement, but comments from two key leaders have raised questions about whether AI is being used to develop the new Halo game. This comes as reports surface that both Xbox and PlayStation are exploring generative AI in game development. Halo leaker Rebs Gaming noticed that, when asked by Rolling Stone, game director Greg Hermann and executive producer Damon Conn didn’t clearly say whether AI was being used. Conn explained that games are made by people, but his team is always open to tools that could make the development process better.

Apparently, Hermann responded after the team was asked for specifics on how generative AI might have been used when making the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Though he didn’t give a straightforward ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, he raised the question of what actually qualifies as generative AI. He pointed out that the team uses features like Adobe Photoshop’s generative fill, and described AI as simply another tool that creators can use to help build games.

There’s some uncertainty about whether generative AI is being used to create the new Halo: Combat Evolved game. Earlier this month, a reliable source said the Halo remake team wasn’t using AI for development or creating game elements, and Microsoft hadn’t ordered any studio to use it. An Xbox representative confirmed this after the initial report. However, Rebs Gaming now believes recent comments suggest AI is being used to help the development process, but not to actually make the final in-game content.
