The new survival shooter, Road to Vostok, is quickly gaining popularity on Steam. Since its release on April 7th, the game has become a surprise hit, rapidly climbing the charts as one of Steam’s best-selling titles.
First announced in February 2022, Road to Vostok is a single-player survival game set in a post-apocalyptic Finland-Russia border region. Drawing inspiration from games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R., it focuses on realistic physics, changing weather, and immersive first-person shooting, all wrapped in a dark and unsettling atmosphere. Road to Vostok launched on Steam Early Access on April 7, 2026, priced at $19.99, but is currently 25% off for players who purchase before April 21.
Road to Vostok is Already a Top Selling Steam Game
The survival game Road to Vostok had a very successful launch on Steam Early Access on April 7th. The game’s creator shared on April 8th that it quickly became a top seller in numerous countries and received a ‘Very Positive’ rating from players. According to the post, first noted by Rock Paper Shotgun, the launch has been so successful that funding is already secured for future development of the early access version.
In January, the game Road to Vostok announced its public demo had been downloaded 1 million times, and that initial success has continued now that the full game is available in early access. As of today, April 9th at noon Eastern Time, Road to Vostok is the 16th best-selling game on Steam, ranking between Resident Evil 4 Remake and another extraction shooter, ARC Raiders.
Currently, 5,096 players are actively playing Road to Vostok, according to SteamDB. While that’s lower than the peak numbers for ARC Raiders (79,455 players) and Marathon (12,278 players), it’s a very impressive number for an independent game, especially one focused on challenging survival gameplay. Players seem to be enjoying the game too, as Road to Vostok has a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam based on over 1,800 reviews.
