As a long-time fan of Harrison Ford’s illustrious career spanning over six decades, I can’t help but be thrilled about his latest venture into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Red Hulk in Captain America 4. His transformation process sounds fascinating, and it’s intriguing to hear him describe it as involving acts that his mother (or acting coach) would not approve of!

In a thrilling turn of events, the legendary Indiana Jones actor, Harrison Ford, is now joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His highly-anticipated MCU debut will occur in “Captain America: Brave New World,” where he’ll portray Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, a character also known as Red Hulk. He’s shared some intriguing insights about his character transformation.

As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that I’ll be part of the fresh lineup for “Captain America 4”, marking a new era without Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, or Captain America. Anthony Mackie will lead this incredible journey in “Captain America: Brave New World”, directed by Julius Onah and penned by Jack Kirby, Joe Simon, and Dalan Musson. Alongside Mackie and me, the stellar cast includes Rosa Salazar, Tim Blake Nelson, Carl Lumbly, Danny Ramirez, Liv Tyler, and Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder. In an exclusive interview, I discussed my character’s transformation into the anti-hero, Red Hulk.

At Comic-Con’s Marvel press line, Ford opened up about transforming his character into Red Hulk. The Star Wars legend was more than willing to reveal what his character undergoes prior to becoming Red Hulk. When asked about the process, he humorously replied, “What did it take? It took not giving a care. It took being foolish for the money, which I’ve done before.” He went on to explain that this process involved Ross doing things his mother (or acting coach) would have disapproved of. He emphasized, “I don’t mean to offend. I’m just saying you need to do certain things that your mother – or your acting coach, if you had one – wouldn’t want you to do.” Regarding the filming experience, Ford expressed his enjoyment and delight in it, even praising the fans’ positive reaction to the trailer.

In his role as Captain America, Ford chose to utilize motion-capture technology. During the filming process, they employed de-aging techniques to make him seem significantly younger than his actual age. Prior to taking on this Marvel character, Ford had already been a part of major franchises such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones. When asked about his anti-hero part, Ford described it as “a different kind of fabric” due to the absence of some typical limitations on creativity. This made the experience even more enjoyable for him, and he also expressed delight while discussing his work on Captain America.

Ford shared:

1. My coworkers were simply wonderful. Director Julius Onah excelled in his role. Working alongside Anthony Mackie was a blast. It was all enjoyable and satisfying.

1. Thaddeus Ross originally joined the military and was given the moniker “Thunderbolt” due to his swift and powerful actions. Later on in Aldous Huxley’s novel Brave New World, Ross takes up the role of U.S. President, adding weight to his transformation. Some speculate that his reaction to becoming Red Hulk could be influenced by the widespread corruption prevalent in politics. It goes without saying that Lou Ferrigno Jr., who plays Ross in Marvel, is capable of bringing any character to life, whether hero, villain, or anti-hero. With an acting career spanning six decades and numerous awards under his belt, including a Career Achievement Award at the Critics Choice Awards in January, there’s no denying Ferrigno Jr.’s talent.

In the world of comics, the Red Hulk serves as a formidable adversary to the Hulk, creating excitement for their potential meeting. This year at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Mark Ruffalo, portraying Bruce Banner (also known as the Hulk) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hinted that he would return to his superhero role in an upcoming Captain America film. Later, Anthony Mackie seemed to confirm Ruffalo’s involvement when he mentioned that there are several Hulks featured within the movie.

Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14, 2025.
