Even though it’s been more than a decade since the final Harry Potter film was released, the original cast members have managed to stay connected. Recently, one of them gave some insight into what the original gang (OGs) might be feeling about the upcoming Harry Potter television series.

The Harry Potter film series, based on J.K. Rowling’s book collection with the same title, is one of the most triumphant cinematic franchises ever made. Over the course of a decade, starting from 2001, eight films were produced: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (also known as Philosopher’s Stone), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. In the year 2023, it was announced that a TV series would be developed as a loyal adaptation of the books, with filming expected to span another decade. The original cast members, who worked together for a full decade on the movie series, formed a strong bond and now communicate frequently through a group chat.

Tom Felton, known for playing the intricate character Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, recently spoke with People prior to the opening of the Harry Potter Shop in Chicago on April 9th. This latest shop is inspired by the Goblet of Fire. At 12 years old when the first movie was filmed, Felton shared that visiting the store brought back memories of the time they were still shooting the beloved film series, calling it a “magical” experience. In the interview, he mentioned that he frequently communicates with his on-screen father, Jason Isaacs, and that the original cast members maintain a WhatsApp group. He also shared that he recently recorded a video of the newly opened store and sent it to them.

The upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series hasn’t been discussed yet, but Felton suggested that everyone is eager to see the enchanting universe of the successful franchise continue thriving. In his own words, “We’re all quite excited to witness the wizarding world carry on.” Moreover, Felton humorously hinted at how he would secretly return to set if another actor were to take over his role as Draco. He playfully stated:

“If someone else takes up the mantle of portraying Draco, I’ll be sure to slip back on set and give them a piece of my mind!

I eagerly anticipate paying a visit to young Draco and catching him off guard, perhaps in a playful manner. There’s a good chance I might end up appearing in the background as an unnoticed extra.

A number of actors connected with HBO’s forthcoming Harry Potter television series have voiced their opinions on it so far. Most seem enthusiastic, including Felton who hinted at the possibility of making a brief appearance. Matthew Lewis, known for his role as Neville Longbottom, has indicated he might be open to participating if asked by the production team. Bonnie Wright, who starred as Ginny Weasley, expressed a willingness to return to the series, suggesting she would consider it under the right circumstances. She hopes that the TV show could delve deeper into the book’s details, as the movies had to omit some due to time constraints.

Radcliffe, the primary character, didn’t seem eager about joining the TV show as he believed the production team was aiming for a new beginning. Earlier, it had been stated that they wanted younger actors for the lead roles. However, Radcliffe showed his appreciation for the young performers taking over the characters they once embodied on the silver screen. Similarly, Isaacs suggested an actor who might play Lucius Malfoy in the series – Meryl Streep. Remarkably, this suggestion is unusual because Lucius is a male character, and his role is significant as a patriarch of a prominent pure-blood family. For now, only John Lithgow has been confirmed for the cast, playing Professor Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series.

HBO’s Harry Potter TV series is expected to premiere in 2026.
