Hatsune Miku has recently done many different collabs, and McDonald’s Japan is about to become the latest one on her list. Miku has recently been featured in so many collaborations that she could be considered some sort of Queen of Collabs. From Pokemon to Fortnite, it seems the sky is the limit when it comes to Miku popping up in many different IPs β or maybe not even the sky, as Miku did a collaboration with JAXA, the Japanese space agency, a few years ago. So, there are no limits at all: Miku can be everywhere.
Miku and The Shaka Shaka Potato
Yesterday, the official McDonald’s Japan social media account shared an image hinting at a potential collaboration, which appeared to depict a shaded figure reminiscent of Hatsune Miku. Intrigued fans quickly chimed in with various humorous comments, but most seemed to have figured out that it involved a partnership of some kind.
Today, it was announced that McDonald’s will be teaming up with the virtual pop star for Miku Day, which falls on March 9th. In Japanese, the numbers three and nine can also be pronounced as “san” and “kyu,” making them read as “Thank you, Miku.

What will happen on Miku Day?
*No onion flavor
In McDonald’s Japan, you can find the tasty Shaka Shaka Potatoes. Recently, they announced two temporary flavors, Nori Salt and Garlic Black Pepper Mayo, which will be available starting February 26th. However, there’s some uncertainty about what McDonald’s has planned for March 9th. It could potentially involve a new flavor of Shaka Shaka Potatoes or maybe some special rewards under specific conditions.
Additionally, they’re introducing Potato Nage, a combo featuring fries and nuggets. From 5 pm onwards, customers can opt for the large or extra-large servings of Shaka Shaka Potato Nage for their order.
A Hatsune Miku Movie Is in Theaters
Titled “Vibrant Screen! The Film: A Miku Unable to Sing,” this motion picture featuring Hatsune Miku debuted in Japanese cinemas on January 17 and has already generated over one billion yen (approximately 6.6 million dollars) at the box office. Marking the first Hatsune Miku film, although she previously appeared in “Shinkalion,” it appears that the partnership is not directly tied to the movie’s promotional efforts β for now, it seems like a fortuitous occurrence.
The upcoming movie, which includes various Vocaloid personalities, is slated for US release on April 11, 2025. These characters are given voice by the Vocaloid software, as indicated by their digitally-altered tones; Saki Fujita, for instance, lends her voice to Miku.
