As a seasoned gamer with a heart for lore and a knack for predicting game dynamics, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Season 14 and the introduction of Hazard in Overwatch 2. His intriguing backstory, unique abilities, and the possibility of an Omnic romance have piqued my interest like none other.
In Season 14 of “Overwatch 2,” we’ll meet the latest addition to the tank role: Hazard. Previewed at the end of the Season 13 trailer and further explored in a gameplay trailer, origin story, and comic, excitement for this Scottish character is building. With one of the most captivating backgrounds among “Overwatch 2” playable characters, Hazard is already generating buzz.
In Overwatch 2, Hazard’s gameplay, with its mix of rough-and-tumble moves, fakes, and partial wall-scaling skills, is definitely enticing. But for those who love the game’s lore, there’s an extra treat. You see, Hazard’s backstory reveals that he lost both feet and an arm due to an Overwatch jet crashing into a building nearby. This intriguing piece of his past could lead to a fascinating interaction between him and Ramattra.
Hazard’s Lore and Values Could Lead to a Surprising Alliance
Hazard Is The First Playable Character To Have Romantic Relations With An Omnic
The trailer for Hazard’s Hero shows that he has a strong connection with his adopted family, a team of hackers who specialize in vandalism and have assisted Hazard in upgrading his body with cybernetic enhancements. In an interview with esports.gg featuring the voice actor for Hazard, Conor McLeod, and Blizzard’s senior narrative designer, Jude Stacey, it was revealed that Hazard found his romantic partner within this group. As per Stacey, Susannah, often known as Susie, an Omnic member of The Phreaks, is Hazard’s love interest. This matches with Susie’s worry in the trailer when Hazard self-injects a substance without fully understanding its potential side effects.
In the storyline of Overwatch, it’s not necessarily the case that Hazard is the first human to have an Omnic as a partner. There are instances throughout the game’s lore where Omnics are depicted in close proximity or even affectionate with humans, such as during Mondatta’s speech in the short animation “Alive” and in a brief scene from Sombra’s origin story. However, it is significant that Hazard is the first playable character to openly partner with an Omnic. This could potentially lead to more insight into the ongoing struggles of Omnics and their relationships with humans within the Overwatch universe.
Hazard’s Relationship Could Draw the Attention of Null Sector
It’s confirmed that Hazard has friendly interactions with characters like Ashe and Kiriko in Overwatch 2, but he has tense relationships with several other members of the team. This is because he holds little respect for Overwatch, Talon, or the Junkers. Given his opinion that the system has let him down, and Overwatch’s involvement in the accident that seriously injured him, it’s understandable why he feels this way towards them. Additionally, Talon is on his list of enemies due to their shared anti-establishment views, as well as the Junkers, who are known for their anti-Omnic stance.
With few characters and organizations seemingly on friendly terms with him and the criminal group known as The Phreaks becoming a force to be reckoned with, Hazard extending favor to the Omnics may attract the interest of Ramattra, the leader of the Omnic liberation group Null Sector. Though Overwatch 2‘s PvE missions are at an indefinite standstill, and Ramattra’s story is left ambiguous due to this, in-game interactions and stories could explore The Phreaks’ growing reputation. Their recent heist at Oasis University, where they stole a sample of vanadium ferrofluid, could be a surprising yet satisfying way to further Ramattra’s narrative.
As a devoted enthusiast, I’ve found that the data available about vanadium isotope effects isn’t abundant. However, an intriguing detail has emerged: initially, Venture had it, and subsequently, it passed to Moira.
Ramattra and Hazard Share Similar Perspectives
In the story of Overwatch, following the Awakening and the resolution of the Omnic Crisis, Omnics were liberated from the harmful AI control of Anubis, gaining self-awareness. Yet, while this conflict concluded, another problem emerged as many humans failed to recognize Omnics as their equals. As Ramattra strives to establish a path towards coexistence and peace, even if it requires conflict, Hazard’s ongoing bond with Susie could potentially foster understanding between them.
Within the game, this ensures captivating dialogues between characters, as they are both willing to resort to violence and advocating for Omnic rights. While Role Queue modes may restrict their interactions to some extent, conversations between these characters – whether they’re on opposing teams or the same team in Overwatch 2’s 6v6 playtests or Open Queue – should still be intriguing. Regrettably, Hazard’s limited trial weekend didn’t include voice exchanges with other characters, but fans can anticipate fresh dialogues when he officially launches in Season 14.
