HBO Casts New Ron Weasley Actor for Harry Potter Series

HBO’s upcoming series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is moving forward quickly. They’ve revealed the actors who will play the main characters, shared a first look with a trailer, and announced it will premiere around Christmas 2026. Last year, Dominic McLaughlin was cast as Harry Potter, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, completing the core trio.

There’s a slight challenge with the new Harry Potter series. Because the first season covers Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the famous Mirror of Erised scene needs a slightly older actor to play Ron Weasley. The show’s creators have addressed this, and reportedly cast Louis Shelton in the role.

Harry Potter Has Cast A New Ron Weasley

According to Redanian intelligence, actor Shelton will play Ron Weasley in a scene taking place around Christmas at Hogwarts. The scene depicts Harry sneaking Ron out of their dorm at night to show him the Mirror of Erised.

When Ron and his brothers had their first holiday, they remained at Hogwarts while their parents went to Romania to see their son, Charlie. Meanwhile, Harry, hidden by the Invisibility Cloak, followed a path from the library to a secret chamber. He opened the door and hurried to a large, golden-framed mirror, where he saw his parents reflected back at him. But when Ron looked in the mirror, he saw a different vision: himself, older and serving as Head Boy.

The next night, Dumbledore found Harry looking into the mirror again and told him what it really was. Called the Mirror of Erised, it shows people their most heartfelt desires. Now that the new Harry Potter series is well underway, and reports suggest two actors will play Ron Weasley, it’s clear the HBO adaptation is focusing on accuracy and capturing the nuances of each character.

The cast is growing! John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore, with Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Luke Thallon will be Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse is Argus Filch. Lox Pratt will play Draco Malfoy, alongside Johnny Flynn as his father, Lucius. Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby will portray Petunia and Vernon Dursley.
