Everyone is eagerly anticipating the upcoming HBO reboot of Harry Potter. Whether you’re a longtime fan or simply curious to see how the new series stacks up against the books and movies, the wait is almost over. The show is scheduled to premiere in early 2027, and HBO is gradually releasing details about the plot and characters. Expect a steady stream of small updates and teasers leading up to the first episode.
As a big Harry Potter fan, I’m so excited about the new series! I recently saw something from the actor playing the new Draco Malfoy, and it’s got me really intrigued. It’ll be interesting to see how Lox Pratt, who’s 14, does in the role, especially following Tom Felton’s iconic performance. The best news, though, is that the actor playing Draco has said the show will do a better job with the Malfoy family than the movies did, and that’s a huge relief!
HBO’s Harry Potter TV Show Will Focus on Characters Other Than Harry

Even after all these years, Tom Felton remains openly proud of his role as the sarcastic Draco Malfoy. Harry Potter fans enjoy seeing him express his Slytherin allegiance online. He recently revisited the wizarding world, reprising his role as an adult Draco Malfoy in the Broadway play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. While his involvement with the production is temporary—the show is scheduled to end in May 2026—it’s clear he’s still deeply enthusiastic about the Harry Potter franchise.
Tom Pratt recently discussed his roles as Draco Malfoy and in the new BBC miniseries, Lord of the Flies (2026), which premiered on BBC iPlayer on February 8th. The most talked-about part of the interview was his insight into the upcoming Harry Potter TV show. Pratt revealed that the series will be different from the books and films. While the Harry Potter books largely focus on Harry’s perspective – naturally, as he’s the main character – some chapters, like those at the beginning of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, occasionally shift focus.

As a huge Harry Potter fan, I always felt the movies, especially with their limited time, had to cut a lot of details and characters. It’s exciting to hear that the new HBO show aims to fix that! But even more interesting is what producer Mark Pratt shared – they’re planning to really explore Draco Malfoy’s background and show us his home life. We only ever saw Malfoy Manor a couple of times in the films, and those scenes were always pretty grim, so getting a look at young Draco growing up there will be completely fresh territory. I’m really hoping this adds a lot of depth to his character!
The Harry Potter films offered glimpses into Draco’s family life, especially in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when his father, Lucius Malfoy, appeared. This sparked a lot of fan speculation about what Draco’s home life was really like. Now, we’re finally going to find out for sure – we’ll get to see it firsthand.
This adaptation really expands on the world presented in the books. The books focus primarily on Harry’s perspective, which works well, and the film maintains that focus while also showing us so much more. We get to see glimpses of everyday life at Hogwarts – the teachers in their offices, and even Draco Malfoy at home. There are some fantastic scenes showing his home life that give you a better understanding of his character.
Like with the book ‘Lord of the Flies,’ I appreciated the chance to really delve into these characters. The movies often portray Draco as a one-dimensional villain, but there’s so much more to him – we need to understand his motivations. You get hints of that in the films, especially with his father, Lucius. I think the series is fantastic, and I’m excited to help bring it to life.
