HCS Salt Lake: Spacestation Beats OpTic Again To Secure Grand Finals

As a longtime fan of competitive Halo, I’ve seen my fair share of upsets and underdog stories, but this year has been particularly gripping. The Salt Lake City Major was another nail-biting event that saw Spacestation Gaming (SSG) reign once again, but not without controversy. Their use of “reset cheese” strategy, while effective, has sparked quite the debate among fans and competitors alike.

The Salt Lake City Major of the Halo Championship Series has come to an end, and Spacestation has added another trophy to their collection. In a commanding final match, the home team dealt OpTic Gaming their second loss of this kind this season, marking the third time they’ve finished in second place.

Nonetheless, their victory wasn’t without its problems being raised. The triumph of Spacestation has been labeled as ‘reset cheese’, due to the high number of restarts initiated by them, particularly during games where they were falling behind a map. However, it’s not just one-sided in the discussion – Spacestation also employed resets when they were winning maps.

To The Championship

Although Optic Gaming didn’t secure the grand prize once more, they now have something exciting to anticipate: the Halo World Championship happening in Seattle from October 4th to 6th. Regrettably, this marks the fourth time in less than a year that the team has finished runner-up, with both Spacestation and FaZe Clan being their consistent opponents.

Optic Gaming played exceptionally well in the Salt Lake City tournament bracket, maintaining their best form under the watchful eyes of the spectators. In consecutive matches, Optic outplayed Spacestation, FaZe Clan, and Shopify Rebellion. However, SSG’s resilience in the lower bracket and their dramatic surge into the grand final proved to be a challenge too great for Optic to overcome.

In order to meet OpTic once more, SSG overcame Cloud9, ITB, Complexity, FaZe Clan, and Rebellion. That’s quite the payback if you ask me!

Regrettably, the matter concerning resets was a source of contention among both spectators and participants. Notably, Optic’s FormaL voiced his opinions on this topic.

It was really disappointing to experience repeated resets during the grand final, interrupting the flow of the game. If a player’s equipment malfunctioned repeatedly, there might have been consequences. The crowd’s behavior was disrespectful, and I’ve noticed Optic fans behaving similarly, although it was excessive. I understand their frustration.
