Heartopia Birdwatching Guide: Unlocking, Using Scanner, & Info Card Rewards

In the game Heartopia, you’ll discover seven different hobbies as you advance through the Developer’s Guild and help the townspeople with their requests. One of these is Bird Watching, where you use binoculars and a scanner to photograph birds from a distance – getting too close will frighten them away!

Want to get started with bird watching in Heartopia and figure out what to do with those bird Info Cards you’re collecting? You’ve come to the right place! We’ll show you how to unlock this fun hobby.

How to Unlock the Bird Watching Hobby in Heartopia

Chirp, Chirp

You can unlock Bird Watching in Heartopia when you reach Developer Level 6. Once you do, you’ll receive a Hobby Expansion Ticket, allowing you to learn this skill from Bailey J, who you can find above the pet shop in the central plaza.

If you choose to use your expansion ticket on a different activity, such as insect catching or cooking, you’ll have to wait before receiving another one. It’s really up to you to prioritize which hobby you want to focus on first.

If you’re having trouble locating the Birdwatching Station, simply open your map, find “Bailey J”, and then press the “Track” button.

How to Use the Bird Scanner and Take Pictures of Birds in Heartopia

It’s Like Pokemon Snap!

Open your tools menu in the bottom-right corner and select the bird scanner. Once equipped, you can use it to zoom in and out on birds with the slider on the left side of the screen. Remember to keep a safe distance so you don’t scare them away!

You’ll start with two main actions: gathering food (Foraging) and making bird calls (Chirping). If you observe a bird carefully and catch a special behavior, you’ll earn extra stars, which improve your Info Cards and increase your Birdwatching proficiency. As you become more skilled, you’ll unlock new actions and be able to take even better photos. You can practice identifying birds at the Bird Ringing Station, but these sightings won’t be added to your collection – however, you’ll still earn proficiency points!

When your scanner gets damaged, you can fix it with a Repair Kit and start scanning again. You can make these kits at a workbench, and they’ll restore your scanner’s health.

What to do With Bird Info Cards in Heartopia?

Recycling Time

Whenever you photograph a bird in Heartopia, you’ll collect Info Cards. You can sell these to Albert, the gold merchant, for a small amount of coins at first. However, it’s best to hold onto them until you reach Birdwatching level 2 (which requires 200 Proficiency points).

You can earn Hobby Upgrade Tickets by increasing your Guild rank and finishing hobby-related Collection challenges. These tickets let you advance to level two in the Hobbies menu. Reaching level two in Birdwatching, for example, unlocks new birds to discover and allows you to recycle Info Cards with Bailey J.

Now that you can chat with Bailey J, you’ll be able to submit Info Cards. We believe you can give Bailey up to five cards each day. We received four Repair Kits and 25 Quality Timber the first time we tried it, though the rewards may vary daily. Either way, you’ll get much better items than if you just sell the cards to Albert Jr. for Gold.
