As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been lucky enough to dive headfirst into the next chapter of the thrilling Hell Let Loose series – Hell Let Loose: Vietnam. It’s an unforgettable experience!
Since its early access release in 2019, following a successful Kickstarter campaign that I proudly backed, Hell Let Loose has consistently been my preferred World War 2 gaming experience. The massive battlefields, stunning graphics, and the high-risk one-shot mechanic create an immersive multiplayer setting that I haven’t found another game to match in terms of intensity and authenticity.
When Team 17, the publisher of Hell Let Loose, revealed plans for a new game in the series, this time taking place in Vietnam, my excitement level spiked and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to experience it firsthand.
Familiar, But Entirely Different
To initiate the mission, I navigated towards the action zone, taking up position as a helicopter gunner, eager to unleash a barrage of bullets against any Vietnamese forces we encountered. After a brief flight lasting approximately one minute over the rivers and dense jungle, we touched down at our target location on a muddy riverbank.
Rapidly, mortar fire from the enemy descended upon us as we advanced towards our destination, a Vietnamese village inhabited by hostile soldiers. We navigated quickly but perilously across bamboo bridges between buildings, and were subjected to attacks from green tracer bullets that kept us pinned down from the jungle’s tree line.
After a few moments of defeating some opponents, we successfully captured the target and moved towards the next one, which involved crossing a significant river. In games like Hell Let Loose, you’re usually faced with difficulties such as locating an uncontested bridge or dealing with canal boat congestions to cross the river. However, in Hell Let Loose Vietnam, we managed to swim across instead.
Regrettably, our team’s existence proved brief as we were all eliminated. However, the incident provided a classic instance reminiscent of Hell Let Loose, one that remains timelessly captivating. The forest line before us was bombarded by an artillery barrage, yet sadly it missed the foe who riddled our team with AK-47 fire. Oh well, such is war sometimes.
Massive Improvements Across The Board
If you’re a fan of Hell Let Loose, this new game has a similar feel, but with numerous enhancements throughout. I hope these improvements will also be incorporated into the original game. However, what stands out is that the game feels unique and innovative, offering a fresh experience while still retaining the immersive quality Hell Let Loose is famous for. The developers have skillfully balanced preserving the familiarity with introducing enough changes to justify a new game title.
When I learned that the series was set in Vietnam, one worry I had was the limited visibility of enemies, an issue present in the initial game. However, the enhanced lighting overhaul, along with the game’s upgrade from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, has noticeably improved the game’s color scheme. Although you might still get shot unexpectedly occasionally, these concerns have largely been addressed. The audio in the game has significantly improved too, allowing players to use both their hearing and sight to locate enemies more easily.
Another
Vietnam promises to bring a unique and captivating addition to the Hell Let Loose series, offering gamers an engaging and less commonly explored experience within the realm of first-person shooter games.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam’s official launch is tentatively scheduled for various platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X in the year 2026.
