After a long break, I’ve recently revisited Hello Kitty Island Adventure, which is now available on Switch. I must admit that it’s not often I come across such an adorable game. While I’ve spent countless hours on Animal Crossing New Horizons, I wasn’t expecting to become as fond of Sunblink’s life sim as I did. In fact, I’ve bought two Tuxedo Sam plush toys and received figurines of the character as gifts since its release. It’s heartwarming, wholesome, and innocent, and it’s great to see more games like this being made.

Apart from being sweeter than candy, Hello Kitty Island Adventure isn’t just an enjoyable game, it was also a great one I reviewed on mobile in 2023. Remarkably, most aspects of the game remain the same as they were then. You can check out my original review for details, but let me tell you about the Switch version. It looks stunning on the OLED screen! However, when playing docked, there were occasional freezing moments while exploring the island, but overall, it ran smoothly for most of my playtime.

After jumping out of an airplane alongside Hello Kitty and companions, you’re immediately shown the workings. Unlike your previous feelings of emptiness while camping in Animal Crossing, here there’s no shortage of activities. Though you don’t initially have a place to call home, there are numerous quizzes available for engagement. The main emphasis lies in the abundance of quests, even if some involve fetch tasks. However, the chance to meet diverse characters from the Sanrio universe and engage with them never loses its charm.

There’s always plenty to keep you busy on this island: From selecting a thoughtful gift for its inhabitants based on their unique personalities, creating unique crafts, preparing your home for guests, uncovering the island’s hidden mysteries, or lending a helping hand to a friend in need. While Animal Crossing didn’t have traditional quests, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is brimming with them. Each day on this island promises excitement, and doing it all as your own customizable character adds a fun twist to relaxing under the island’s beautiful sunshine.

Throughout the year, as you explore, the island adapts to reflect each season, offering continually breathtaking sights. It boasts an assortment of mini-games and puzzles, providing a diverse experience that sets it apart from other life simulation games. The freedom to play on platforms beyond Apple devices allows for a more immersive experience, especially when played on a large screen from the comfort of your sofa, preserving the cozy ambiance found in activities such as fishing, gardening, or roaming this captivating island.
