Summary
- Star Wars Battlefront 3 is unlikely to happen as EA only plans to focus on a handful of franchises moving forward.
- An internal email states that EA is focusing on Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends.
- EA also plans to support Motive’s Iron Man game and the next Star Wars: Jedi title.
As a passionate Star Wars Battlefront fan, it seems my hopes for a third installment might be dashed as an internal email leak suggests Electronic Arts (EA) has no immediate plans for a new Star Wars title beyond Respawn Entertainment’s third Star Wars: Jedi game. Despite the dedicated efforts of fans who have been revitalizing 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront 2, it appears our petition could be going unheard.
Ever since the thrilling finale of “Andor” Season 2, I’ve noticed a surge in players coming back to “Battlefront 2”. The finale, combined with the annual May the fourth celebration, has certainly played a role. However, it’s not just about revisiting this eight-year-old game for many. In fact, one enthusiastic fan has started a petition, urging Electronic Arts (EA) to develop “Battlefront 3”. As I write this, the petition has garnered nearly 15,000 signatures!
The argument is that the Star Wars Intellectual Property (IP) has been a significant contributor to EA’s revenue for over a decade. They believe that a third installment in the series would not only honor but also celebrate the rich legacy of the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars Battlefront 3 Is Not Part of EA’s Plans
Jedi project, there was no word on the future of the Battlefront series.
In April, Respawn shared an update on the upcoming Star Wars Jedi game, indicating their intention to surpass expectations with both storytelling and gameplay once again. At this time, a launch date for the title hasn’t been announced, but it appears that it is one of the last Star Wars games being developed by Electronic Arts.
2015’s Star Wars Battlefront was generally well-received by gamers, but its 2017 follow-up stirred controversy due to numerous microtransactions and loot boxes within the shooter game. Fortunately, EA made significant changes to the system prior to release, resulting in a “very positive” user rating on Steam with close to 60,000 player reviews.
Although support for Star Wars Battlefront 2 ended in 2020, an unexpected surge of players has caused it to surpass its own concurrent player record recently. The game previously held this record on Steam in 2021 with about 10,000 simultaneous players, but now it has exceeded that number significantly, boasting over 18,000 concurrent players on the platform. Regrettably, despite the community’s persistent efforts, ongoing layoffs, studio closures, and Electronic Arts’ focus on future titles make a third Star Wars Battlefront game appear very unlikely.
