League of Legends players are thrilled to learn that Hextech Chests will be returning to the game, following their withdrawal at the beginning of 2025 which led to a significant wave of discontent among fans. In Riot’s latest developer update, the League team admitted that several changes they implemented didn’t sit well with the gaming community.
Hextech Chests Are Coming Back
Starting in Act 2, from March onwards with the rollout of update 25.05, Hextech Chests make their comeback. From this point forward, a total of 10 Hextech Chests will be up for grabs per act, amounting to 60 per year spread across six acts.
- Eight will be available in the free Pass of each act.
- Two more can be earned through the Honor system.
Earlier, Hextech Chests were obtained via the Champion Mastery system; however, upon their return, these chests will retain their original qualities from Champion Mastery, but are expected to be easier to acquire with the help of a pass.
In the near future, additional modifications are being made or tackled, and here’s one key update: The cost of Blue Essence for all champions will be lowered by half. Moreover, more Mythic Essence is being incorporated into the rewards system of the pass. The initial announcement about Hextech Chests being eliminated sparked significant criticism, with many players expressing their intent to stop playing the game entirely. Riot’s Executive Producer, Paul “Pabro” Bellezza, and League head, Andrei “Meddler” van Roon, have articulated the team’s objectives for enhancing Riot’s leading game title.
We recognize that achieving the optimal state for League isn’t solely dependent on a single round of adjustments. It involves ongoing tweaks and enhancements. Today’s updates are a significant milestone, and we’ll closely monitor their impact, engage in discussions with everyone about their reception, and make necessary tweaks. We’ve always developed League hand-in-hand with you, the community. We appreciate your patience and feedback, and we eagerly anticipate our continued collaboration to ensure League remains the best game possible. Thanks again, and we’ll catch you on the Rift.
