Back in 2023, I, Hideki Kamiya, decided to take a leap and part ways with the incredible team at PlatinumGames. In a recent sit-down, I shared the reasons behind this tough choice, giving fans a glimpse into my thought process.
According to reports from Game Spark (Japan) and Eurogamer, Hideki Kamiya opened up about the reasons behind his departure from PlatinumGames in 2023.
He explained that he departed from PlatinumGames due to their gradual transition towards a contemporary approach to game development, which seemed to devalue the uniqueness of the creators.
He went on to say, “If it meant the end of my creative journey, I wouldn’t be able to compromise my integrity by working in a setting that I fundamentally disagreed with, and potentially harming my spirit in the process.
Back in October 2007, Hideki Kamiya was part of a team that established PlatinumGames. Later, he decided to move on from this studio and set up his own company named CLOVERS Inc.
Recently, Kamiya voiced his desire to resume work on Scalebound – a project initially developed in collaboration with Xbox, first announced back in 2014. Microsoft pulled the plug on the game in 2017 due to reported problems with Unreal Engine and insufficient expertise at the studio to create essential game components. Moreover, it was suggested that the game didn’t meet player’s lofty expectations.
Whether Scalebound will make a comeback is yet uncertain, but until then, we’ll simply need to keep an eye on CLOVERS or Kamiya as they reveal their upcoming projects.
