The tables have turned for Hideo Kojima – the famous game creator is now appearing in a movie! According to Famitsu, Kojima will make a voice cameo in the Japanese version of Zootopia 2, the sequel to Disney’s popular 2016 animated film about animals living in a modern city. Jared Bush, co-director of Zootopia 2 and a leader at Disney Animation, personally asked Kojima to voice the character of Paul Moldebrandt, a police officer who works with the film’s main characters, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.

Hideo Kojima expressed his enthusiasm for the position in a statement to Famitsu, saying:

I’ve done a lot of small roles in live-action movies and games, but this is the first time I’m providing the voice for an animated film. And it’s a Disney movie, no less! Even better, it’s a sequel to one of my all-time favorite films, Zootopia!

Kojima praised the first Zootopia as the best Disney animation, highlighting its ability to deliver important social messages and humor that everyone can enjoy. He also talked about his experience as a voice actor, saying he gained a new appreciation for the work involved and noticed how much detail voice actors consider – even something as small as the sound of turning pages during recording.

Hideo Kojima, known for his work in video games and film, has a history of making cameo appearances in his own projects and others. He first became known for hiding himself in the Metal Gear Solid games – sometimes as a quick Easter egg, and other times as a fully realized character with his own side quest. More recently, he made a clear appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 as a Braindance producer at the Konpeki Plaza hotel, as he mentioned in the press release announcing his cameo in Zootopia 2.

Hideo Kojima made a few uncredited appearances as an extra in live-action films and series. He appeared in the films Versus (2000) and Azumi (2003), and the TV miniseries The Eleven Little Roosters (a 2017 spy thriller from Rooster Teeth) and Too Old to Die Young (a 2019 crime thriller co-created by Nicolas Winding Refn).
