Hideo Kojima Compares AI to Smartphones, Says There’s No Going Back

Hideo Kojima recently shared his thoughts on AI, explaining that arguing whether or not to use it, or dismissing it altogether, isn’t productive.

Artificial intelligence in gaming has sparked debate ever since players began to understand the technology. Recently, Larian Game Studios faced criticism for its use of AI. Now, a well-respected game director has weighed in, stating that AI is a force that can’t be ignored.

Hideo Kojima Talks About Embracing AI, As There is No Going Back

In a recent interview with Nikkei Xtrend (as reported by GamesRadar+), Hideo Kojima discussed his views on AI. He pointed out that smartphones initially faced criticism, but are now indispensable for many people. Kojima believes AI will follow a similar path, and it’s important to focus on using technology to improve our lives.

Kojima pointed out that trying to reject AI is pointless, just like it was with smartphones – progress is inevitable. He believes AI could change how we communicate, potentially helping those who struggle with in-person interactions. However, he also cautioned that relying too much on AI could make us overly dependent, suggesting we should find ways to limit its use or even designate days where we disconnect from it.

Also in the gaming world, Hideo Kojima was surprisingly added to the cast of Zootopia 2 right before its release. It’s also been revealed he was once planning a Matrix game, but Konami canceled the project. What do you think about Kojima’s recent comparison of AI to smartphones?
