Hideo Kojima New Game Safe from Xbox Layoffs

The currently announced Hideo Kojima game, titled OD, being developed by Kojima Productions and in collaboration with Xbox, is still said to be under development as of now. First unveiled in 2022, this horror title goes by the name OD.

Over the last week or so, working for Microsoft, Xbox’s parent company, has been anything but smooth sailing. A wave of layoffs has swept through the tech titan and its divisions, including the console manufacturing arm, hitting approximately 9,000 employees hard. This corporate reshuffling has led to several game development projects being shelved, with studios like those behind the revival of Perfect Dark, Everwild, and a handful of unnamed titles feeling the brunt of these cancellations. With rumors swirling about more Xbox-connected games potentially meeting the same end, gamers everywhere have been on edge, wondering about the future of some ongoing projects.

For Kojima fans, there’s currently no need for concern as development on OD continues uninterrupted, according to Jez Corden from Windows Central. Dispelling rumors about potential cuts at Xbox affecting the upcoming game, he assured fans that it isn’t under immediate threat, but cautioned that the situation might change in the future. Meanwhile, the fate of several other Xbox projects, which were previously announced but haven’t been updated for some time, remains uncertain. This period of layoffs within the gaming industry highlights its volatile nature.

OD Development Continues Amid Cancellation Scare

Enthusiasts of Kojima can find solace in the good news about OD, particularly those who have been eagerly anticipating a horror game from him since his Silent Hill project was cancelled by Konami. Moreover, this renowned game creator has another task at hand, the PlayStation-published title Physint, which seems to be similar to Metal Gear Solid. Unfortunately, there’s scant information available on when either of these games will be released.

Following the tremendous success of “Death Stranding 2,” the buzz surrounding Kojima’s independent studio has reached unprecedented heights. With “OD” and “Physint” slated for development, it appears that the Japanese company is poised to debut a fresh original project in the near future. It will be intriguing to observe whether these upcoming games will generate as much polarizing opinion as the initial “Death Stranding” or receive widespread acclaim similar to its sequel.
