Details have been scarce about Hideo Kojima’s new stealth game, currently known as Physint, but a recent search for actors has given fans a small peek at what to expect, including the introduction of a new villain. Described as an “action espionage” title, Physint will be the third major game developed in collaboration between Kojima Productions, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and film studio Columbia Pictures. Although development is still in its early phases, the fact that they’re looking for even more actors suggests the project is moving forward.
Okay, so everyone knows Hideo Kojima basically made stealth games cool with the original Metal Gear Solid. It was a bummer when he left Konami because we all wondered if he’d ever go back to that kind of game after Death Stranding. Thankfully, it looks like he is! We’ve gotten word his next project will be another action-espionage title, and some details from a recent casting call are starting to give us clues about what the story in Phsyint might be about. It’s exciting to think he’s returning to his roots!
Hideo Kojima’s Physint Leaks Villain Details
Recent casting calls for the upcoming game, currently known as Physint, have revealed that Mari Ueda is the casting director. This marks the second time Ueda has collaborated with Hideo Kojima, following her work on Death Stranding. The calls are seeking actors to play passengers on a hijacked bus, including a mother with a newborn, five diverse teenagers, and two other men. Notably, they’re also looking for an actor to play a German-accented villain, described as similar to Mads Mikkelsen’s portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal, but with more showmanship. This is interesting because Mikkelsen previously worked with Kojima on Death Stranding. The casting call suggests they’re looking for someone who can embody an antagonist who is both intensely focused and confidently unsettling, much like Mikkelsen’s iconic Dr. Lecter.
Kojima Productions often features famous actors in their games – Mads Mikkelsen, Norman Reedus, and Léa Seydoux all appeared in Death Stranding. However, they usually don’t find these stars through open auditions, so the villain with a German accent in Physint might be a smaller role, not the main enemy. The game’s teasers suggest there will be action-packed moments, specifically involving a hijacked bus. It’s still unclear if this will just be shown in a cutscene, or if players will actually experience it as part of the gameplay in this new game, which is considered a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid.
Based on casting calls for Physint, filming is currently planned to start in June 2026, but these dates are subject to change. It’s worth remembering that motion capture for Death Stranding 2 began in 2022, but the game wasn’t released until 2025. However, the planned June 2026 start for motion capture suggests a trailer could be coming soon. Hideo Kojima often makes big reveals at gaming events like PlayStation State of Play, Summer Game Fest, or The Game Awards. Fans eager for updates should keep an eye on Physint and Hideo Kojima’s future projects for more information and official announcements.
