Hideo Kojima Thinks That Remakes And Sequels Will Soon Be Made by AI

Hideo Kojima is famous not only for creating iconic games, but also for being refreshingly candid when speaking at events. His recent appearance at Brazil Game Show 2025, or BGS 2025 as it’s commonly called, continued that tradition.

The well-known Japanese game developer visited Brazil last week for a gaming event. He shared photos on social media of his trip, including sights like São Paulo’s Beco do Batman and various Brazilian foods.

Being Brazilian, it was awesome seeing Hideo Kojima enjoy his visit here! Honestly, though, he didn’t just relax – a ton of interviews started coming out while he was here, and they had some really cool details in them.

Kojima On The Future Of Creativity And Why He Keeps Making Games

I was reading an interview with Hideo Kojima over on Rolling Stone Brasil, and he was talking about how there seem to be *so* many remakes and sequels coming out these days – not just in games like the ones we play, but in movies and TV too. He seemed a little worried about the trend, and honestly, I kinda get where he’s coming from.

Hideo Kojima often gets asked about the constant stream of sequels in gaming, but he points out that this isn’t unique to games – movies frequently rely on remakes and reboots too. He explains that these established properties are simply easier to fund and produce because they already have an audience. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with that from a business perspective, Kojima warns that an industry focused *solely* on sequels and remakes risks stagnation and needs to prioritize original creations.

He then brought up another interesting point: that AI could start creating remakes and sequels. He predicted, “In the future, remakes and sequels will be made by AI.”

Regarding future post-credits scenes featuring the “A Hideo Kojima Game” screen, Kojima says it ultimately depends on the fans.

I continue to make games because of my amazing fans and players who eagerly await each new project. Without their support, I wouldn’t be doing this. If the demand ever disappeared, I’d happily stop. Game development is demanding, but it allows me to live a fulfilling and passionate life – and that’s what truly matters.

Personally, I hope Kojima has been working hard on that new project idea he mentioned – we’re all eager to see what he comes up with next!
