High on Life 2 Isn’t Even Out Yet, But It Makes Me Wish Another Game Was

The sequel to High on Life is almost here, and it promises to be even more hilarious and action-packed than the first game. Building on what made the original so enjoyable, High on Life 2 introduces new features, most notably skateboarding. While it might seem strange for a shooter about fighting a corrupt drug company to include skateboarding, the game stays true to the unpredictable and quirky spirit of the first installment.

Skateboarding in games can sometimes feel like a pointless addition, but the way High on Life 2 is handling it looks genuinely fun. It fits the game’s lighthearted style, and it’s actually a big reason I’m looking forward to it. While High on Life 2 seems like it will be a great game on its own, it’s also making me nostalgic for classic skate games like the Tony Hawk’s series. I spent countless hours playing Tony Hawk’s Underground as a kid – it was one of my favorites, and still holds up today. That game really changed the skateboarding genre, and I’ve been hoping for a remake ever since.

I’m Holding Out Hope That a Tony Hawk’s Underground Remake Will Happen One Day

Tony Hawk games have become popular again recently. The remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was released in 2020, and I especially enjoyed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 last year. While they aren’t overly complex games, they’re surprisingly relaxing to play.

There’s something strangely satisfying about extreme sports games – maybe it’s just the memories they bring back, or the sound of skating on pavement. It’s almost a calming, sensory experience. And with the improvements Tony Hawk’s Underground made to the series, a remake could be even more incredible.

If a new version of the game is made, it might include elements from both Tony Hawk’s Underground and its sequel, similar to how other remakes have been handled.

A Remake of Tony Hawk’s Underground Only Makes Sense at This Point

Following the successful remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and 3+4, Tony Hawk’s Underground is the next game fans are hoping to see updated. And it’s not just fans who want it – Tony Hawk himself is pushing for a remake. In an interview with ScreenRant last year, he admitted that while the decision isn’t his alone, he’s actively trying to make it happen, stating he’ll “campaign all I can” despite acknowledging the ultimate decision rests with a larger company.

While a new game isn’t confirmed, Tony Hawk acknowledging the potential is a good sign. Back in its day, Tony Hawk’s Underground really changed the skateboarding game genre. It introduced innovative features that not only improved the skating experience but also broadened the possibilities for what a skate game could offer. The Tony Hawk series had always been improving, but Tony Hawk’s Underground was by far the most significant advancement the franchise had ever made.

New Features and Skate Mechanics That Were Introduced in Tony Hawk’s Underground

  • The ability to get off the board and walk around
  • Improved character customization
  • Face mapping
  • Wall push
  • Hip transfer
  • Wall plant
  • Pressure Flips
  • Acid Drop
  • Driving

High on Life 2 May Not Be a THUG Remake, But It’s a Reminder of How Fun Skating in Games Can Be

Skateboarding games were really popular in the early to mid-2000s, and the Tony Hawk series was the most successful. While that era has passed, High on Life 2 offers a promising sign that enjoyable skateboarding games can still be made. It’s great that High on Life 2 captures the same silly and energetic feel as the original, building on what players already loved. Plus, High on Life 2 isn’t the only game currently offering a fresh take on skateboarding.

One of Last Year’s Most Underrated Games is Part of High on Life 2’s Skate Renaissance

  • Skate Story launched on December 8, 2025.

Although High on Life 2 and Skate Story are very different games, they both demonstrate that people are still interested in skateboarding gameplay. While skating games aren’t as popular as shooters or realistic role-playing games, there’s clearly still a dedicated group of players who enjoy them.

While games like Tony Hawk’s Underground and the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series aren’t as popular now, High on Life 2 is borrowing elements from them and updating the formula. It feels fresh and fun while still paying tribute to the original gameplay. This shows that skate culture isn’t just a thing of the past – it continues to influence games, though perhaps in unexpected ways.

High on Life 2 Helps Pad Out a Solid Month For Gaming

  • The game is coming to consoles and PC, and it will also be a day-one launch on Xbox Game Pass.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 version will be available on April 20, 2026.

While it might take a bit longer to arrive, High on Life 2 is expected to be released on the Switch 2 in February, along with other exciting games like Nioh 3 and Resident Evil Requiem. Although there’s a lot of competition, I’m especially excited about the fresh approach High on Life 2 is taking to skateboarding.
