Highguard Leaks New Steampunk Character

Okay, so I just saw some leaks and it looks like we might be getting three new Highguard Wardens in the game! Nothing’s official yet, but it’s super exciting to think about. One of them especially caught my eye – they have this really cool, almost steampunk-inspired design, which is a direction I’d love to see the game go in. It’s just a tease right now, but I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed!

Highguard is a curious example of a game trying to succeed as a live service title. It was first shown at The Game Awards in 2025, and then remained largely unseen until it launched on January 26, 2026. While many players tried the game initially, the number quickly fell due to negative reviews. Despite the game director saying player numbers aren’t important, the developer, Wildlight Entertainment, has already had to lay off a significant number of employees just weeks after launch. This puts the future of the game’s planned updates and additional content in doubt.

Highguard Leak Shows Off Three New Wardens

A new character for the game has been revealed on X (formerly Twitter) by leaker X0X_LEAK. It’s Koldo, a steampunk-style Warden who plays the Support role, and he looks fantastic! Details about his gameplay are scarce, but we know his Passive Power, Guardian Angel, will protect nearby friendly orbs and automatically deploy a shield when he revives teammates. While this focused support style might not appeal to all players, Koldo’s cool design will likely still draw people to him.

I’m so excited about the potential new Wardens shown in this leak! Apparently, there are two more characters in the works. One is a really cool-looking woman with long brown hair, and the other is this alien-like green guy – super interesting! Someone called X0X_Leak says the woman’s name is Onyx, but we don’t know much about either of them yet, as the leak doesn’t show their full designs or what they can do. The leak comes from a private YouTube video by Highguard, but as with any leak, we should take it with a grain of salt. Especially since Highguard is in a bit of a tough spot right now with the recent layoffs at Wildlight. It’s unclear how those layoffs will affect their plans, so there’s no guarantee these characters will actually be released. For now, I think it’s best to just wait and see what Highguard announces officially.

Highguard recently expanded its roster with Ekon, a new Warden introduced in Episode 2. Ekon is special because he can transform into a wolf. So far, Highguard has done a great job of making each Warden play differently, and early looks suggest the upcoming Warden, Koldo, will be no exception. However, without more information, it’s hard to say anything about the other two Wardens still in development.

Honestly, the layoffs at Wildlight are making me really worried about the future of Highguard. It’s starting to look a lot like what happened with Concord – another hero shooter that just couldn’t find its footing in a market already packed with live service games. Concord was gone super fast after launch, but at least Highguard had a good start with a lot of people checking it out since it was free-to-play. It’d be a real shame if it ended up the same way. Now, with a smaller team working on it, it’s going to be a tough climb to keep players interested. They really need to do something to boost it, and those leaked characters could be a great first step.
