Highguard Reveals a Brand New Game Mode and Gameplay Changes

Wildlight Entertainment has released a major update for the game Highguard, including a new game mode, weapon tweaks, and overall gameplay improvements. Since launching on January 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Highguard has faced significant challenges. Developed by a team of experienced creators from popular franchises like Call of Duty and Apex Legends, the game had high expectations to become a big success.

Despite initial excitement, the game Highguard hasn’t become the success many hoped for. Player numbers increased quickly when it launched as a free-to-play title, driven by curiosity, but that boost didn’t last. Many players felt it didn’t offer anything new compared to other similar games. Things became even more difficult when the Highguard team experienced layoffs just a month after launch, putting planned updates and content in jeopardy. However, Wildlight Entertainment is still committed to the game.

Wildlight Entertainment Announces a Brand-New Highguard Update

The official Highguard Twitter account announced a new game update launching on February 26, 2026. The biggest addition is Raid Rush Mode, a fast-paced mode where two teams of five players take turns attacking and defending. Unlike other modes, there’s no time to collect loot between rounds – players need to upgrade their gear using Trader Flynn. After each round, teams switch roles, and base defenses are reset. Players earn Vesper during matches, which they can spend with the Trader for special items. To keep things fair, everyone starts with the same basic armor, which improves in quality as the round progresses.

The Highguard update includes several improvements to make the game more enjoyable. A new feature called Comeback Kill gives players Vesper after they eliminate three or more opponents in a row after being defeated. The Reviver Amulet’s speed bonus has been reduced from 50% to 15%. We’ve also added more respawn points to Smugger’s Den. This update is one of several released for Highguard in February 2026.

This update for Highguard includes adjustments to weapon balance. The Dynasty weapon now deals more damage, the Longhorn fires faster, the Longhorn (Repeater) is more accurate when hip-firing, and the Corsair resets its recoil pattern more quickly. The Vanguard and Viper weapons have been adjusted downwards – the Vanguard is less accurate and harder to control, and the Viper is harder to control when using the 2x optic. Additionally, Wildlight Entertainment has fixed several bugs, including a problem with the walls at Belltower in Kingdom and a short selection issue in the firing range.

It’s still unclear if the latest update will bring players back to Highguard, but it’s good to see Wildlight Entertainment continuing to support the game with improvements. Many games, like Concord, are quickly abandoned, so this ongoing support is a positive sign. We’ll have to wait and see how Highguard changes when its major update arrives in March 2026, which will add a new base type and raid tool.
