2025’s much-awaited game was barely shown for a few moments during Nintendo’s latest Nintendo Switch 2 presentation.
In the midst of excitement surrounding Mario Kart World, the unanticipated release of FromSoftware’s latest game called The Duskbloods, and a brand new 3D Donkey Kong platformer, we caught glimpses of just a few seconds showcasing Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Or simply:
Amid the buzz about Mario Kart World, FromSoftware’s fresh game The Duskbloods, and a new 3D Donkey Kong platformer, we managed to see brief previews of Hollow Knight: Silksong.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve eagerly awaited the release of Silksong, the long-awaited sequel to that incredible Metroidvania game we all love. After development began back in 2019, it seems like six years have flown by, with no sign of the game just yet. But recent updates and sneak peeks hint that we might be nearing the final stretch now!
Some supporters had worries that Silksong would exclusively launch on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, Matthew Griffin, responsible for marketing and publication at developer Team Cherry, assured fans that Silksong will indeed be playable on both the original Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
The Wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong Appears to be Almost Over
After quite some wait, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally on its way. Originally conceived as a DLC for the initial Hollow Knight, it soon grew beyond expectations, leading developers Team Cherry to decide that a full-fledged sequel would be more fitting.
From 2019 onwards, there has been limited information about the progress of the game. The team at Cherry, a small development company, has kept their social media platforms relatively quiet while they concentrate on perfecting Silksong to its full potential.
In the gaming world, updates about Silksong have gained a certain notoriety, with Geoff Keighley famously predicting that no Silksong announcements will be made prior to Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2024.
Griffin previously shared some positive news this year, indicating that the project was advancing towards its launch, though no specific timeline has been given yet. The appearance of Silksong in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct gives us the firmest hint to date regarding a potential release date, suggesting that Team Cherry is confident about a 2025 launch.
You don’t have to own a Nintendo console to enjoy Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game is set to release on PC, Linux, macOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and the new Xbox Series X|S. Furthermore, it will be accessible for subscribers of Xbox Game Pass on its first day of release.
