Highly Anticipated Game Skipping Gamescom

Highlights

  • Hollow Knight: Silksong won’t be at Gamescom 2024.
  • The game was previously targeting an H1 2023 release but ended up being delayed.
  • Silksong aside, Gamescom 2024 is poised to boast a record number of exhibitors, more than 1,400 of them.

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the news about Hollow Knight: Silksong skipping Gamescom 2024 is bittersweet. On one hand, I understand Team Cherry’s need for more time to fine-tune their masterpiece; on the other, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment as I’ve been eagerly awaiting any updates about this long-awaited sequel.

Silksong won’t be showcased at Gamescom 2024. Although Team Cherry fans might be disappointed with this absence, the game not being present at Gamescom isn’t surprising given its recent absence from the spotlight.

Back in February 2019, what we now know as Silksong was initially conceived as a DLC for Hollow Knight. However, as the project grew beyond expectations, Team Cherry decided to make it a standalone game instead. Exciting news for us gamers is that this highly-anticipated metroidvania will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one! Moreover, they’ve also shared their intentions to bring it to the latest PlayStation consoles of both generations. Initially, they aimed for a release in the first half of 2023, but unfortunately, they had to push back the launch indefinitely, which they announced in May of that year.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Skipping Gamescom 2024

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting and speculating about the potential debut of Silksong at numerous major events over the past few months. To quell the anticipation this time, Geoff Keighley – a veteran Gamescom presenter – has shared on Twitter that the Hollow Knight sequel will not be part of this year’s show. Team Cherry is still working diligently on it, hence the decision to skip this edition. This announcement marks the second instance in which Keighley managed expectations for Gamescom within the past year, having previously done so for the 2023 event as well.

Hey there, gaming community! I’ve got to say, it’s been tough being a fan of Team Cherry’s epic title, Hollow Knight: Silksong. This year alone, we’ve seen several setbacks during the June game showcases that left many of us disappointed. The silence regarding the project’s progress has become quite a running joke in our online community, with fans eagerly waiting for Silksong since nearly half a decade ago. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but we’re all still here and hanging on, hoping for the best!

Despite the Hollow Knight sequel not attending Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, many other games are expected to do so. In fact, the convention is projected to break records with over 1,400 game developers and publishers from 64 countries showcasing their work, representing a 15% increase compared to previous years. Additionally, an extraordinary 48 country pavilions have been reserved for 37 participating nations.

Before Gamescom officially begins, the annual Opening Night Live (ONL) presentation hosted by Keighley is set for August 20, starting at 11am Pacific Time/2pm Eastern Time/8pm Central European Time. The actual convention will stretch from August 21 to August 25.
