As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating through dark and eerie landscapes, the news of Little Nightmares 3’s appearance during Gamescom 2024 has sent a thrill down my spine. The thought of delving back into the hauntingly beautiful world created by Tarsier Studios (now under the watchful eye of Supermassive Games) is almost too much to bear.

At Gamescom 2024’s Opening Night Live event, we’ll get a glimpse of Little Nightmares 3 by Supermassive Games. This grand gaming extravaganza is set to begin on August 20th, and Little Nightmares 3 has now been added to the impressive lineup of games that will be showcased there. Other notable games in the event include Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Marvel Rivals.

The upcoming horror video game, rich with puzzle-solving and platforming elements, was initially revealed during last year’s Opening Night Live event at Gamescom 2023. Originally, the first two installments in the series were created by Tarsier Studios; however, Supermassive Games is now developing Little Nightmares 3 following their release of an updated version of the second game called Little Nightmares 2: Enhanced Edition.

Geoff Keighley, slated to host the 2024 Opening Night Live exhibition, shared on Twitter on August 16 that a third installment of the “Little Nightmares” series will be showcased and a new trailer for the game will also be unveiled. The global streaming event, Opening Night Live, is set to air on August 20, starting at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and 11 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. This fresh trailer might offer additional details about how the shift in development teams could impact the series. Although Supermassive Games is primarily known for horror games with a focus on challenging decisions like “The Quarry” and “Until Dawn”, they have some experience in platforming, having initially developed DLC for the adorable platformer “LittleBigPlanet”.

Little Nightmares 3 Will Be Featured At Gamescom 2024

Showing the game in a live broadcast might excite fans who have been anticipating updates on the title, particularly since the announcement in late May that Little Nightmares 3 had been postponed. The developers of Little Nightmares mentioned at that time that the game’s release was being moved to 2025 due to the need for additional development time to ensure the game meets fans’ expectations and receives the attention and care it deserves. Although the statement didn’t provide many specifics about the development process, it signaled that the team wanted more time to create a game of exceptional quality.

It’s unlikely that only Little Nightmares 3 will be showcased at the Opening Night Live event by Supermassive. Earlier in August, a teaser hinted at a Gamescom reveal for Project 8020, which is part of Season 2 of The Dark Pictures Anthology. Furthermore, Supermassive is also developing The Casting of Frank Stone, an upcoming narrative expansion for the asymmetrical survival horror game Dead by Daylight, set to launch on September 3.
