Approximately a month after its worldwide theater premiere, it appears that “28 Years Later”, one of the most anticipated horror sequels of 2025, is set for digital streaming release soon. This presents an excellent opportunity for individuals who missed seeing Danny Boyle’s post-apocalyptic zombie film on the big screen, and a convenient excuse to cower behind your sofa during the frightening parts without fear of judgment from fellow moviegoers.
28 Years After recounts the chilling events that unfolded when the Rage virus broke free from a research lab, leaving a band of survivors to navigate through the horrors of the infected world. One group seeks refuge on an island, hoping for a semblance of normalcy and safety. However, during a hunting excursion to the mainland, father and son, Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Spike (Alfie Williams), encounter the perils that lie ahead. The YouTube trailer for 28 Years After garnered 60.2 million views worldwide in its first day, eventually becoming the top horror pre-seller of 2025. As moviegoers continue to process their cinema experiences a month later, those eagerly awaiting its digital release can finally let out a sigh of relief.
28 Years Later Reportedly Gets a July Streaming Date

28 Years Later, as reported by When to Stream, is rumored to make its digital debut via premium video on demand on July 29. However, Sony Pictures Entertainment has not yet confirmed this release date officially. If accurate, fans of director Boyle’s chilling horror movie will be thrilled at the prospect of watching it from home, especially since the film hit theaters just over a month ago. This could also mean that a physical copy won’t be far behind, considering the film’s success. And yes, we can’t help but look forward to seeing those infected zombies in stunning 4K detail – and there’s more to it than just that one naked zombie scene!
Prior to the release of “28 Years Later” last month, it outperformed other major horror films such as “Sinners,” “Final Destination Bloodlines,” and “Nosferatu” in terms of pre-sale ticket sales during its 24-hour advance ticket window, making it the top-selling horror film for pre-sales in 2025. Rewind a couple of weeks later, following the movie’s cinema release, “28 Years Later” earned $103 million during its initial week, with $100 million coming from global sales and $50 million domestically.
In Boyle’s movie, the initial response from critics was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the horror genre and awarding it a high rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, over time, the film’s score has experienced a decline, which might be attributed to its puzzling ending that left audiences questioning the plot resolution.
The Bone Temple, which is a sequel to 28 Years Later, is slated for release on 16 January 2026.
