Just like its previous installment, the Boruto franchise has been a breeding ground for new Dojutsu and visual abilities. Given this pattern of Dojutsu dominance, viewers are left wondering if the Tenseigan will reappear in the anime, and possibly, this time wielded by Himawari Uzumaki.

In the Naruto universe, the Tenseigan is an extraordinarily potent visual skill that outclasses its contemporaries significantly. However, this formidable ability can only be unlocked under specific, stringent conditions, a feat that has only been accomplished by Toneri Otsutsuki thus far in the Naruto series. Interestingly, it appears that Himawari might also satisfy these requirements for awakening the Tenseigan, making her another strong candidate for this powerful Dojutsu. The movie suggests that this power is capable of triggering disastrous events, such as crashing the moon into Earth or animating inanimate objects made of non-living matter. Interestingly, the Tenseigan bears a resemblance to the Byakugan, although it has a blue iris and an inner design that looks like a flower within its pupil.

In my viewpoint, the Tenseigan stands in stark contrast to its ancestor, the Byakugan. Possessing the Tenseigan bestows divine abilities and strength akin to the Sage of Six Paths. This extraordinary eye technique confers powers reminiscent of the Six Paths Sage Mode, allowing the user to manipulate Truth-Seeking Orbs and achieve flight. In essence, the Tenseigan Chakra Mode shares many similarities with Naruto’s Sage Mode Chakra Mode.

The Tenseigan, like the Deva Path of the Rinnegan, appears to possess similar fundamental powers such as manipulating gravity. With this ability, Toneri devised a plan to crash the moon into Earth, a catastrophic event that even the Rinnegan could not have executed. His goal was to annihilate Earth entirely and create a new world using his Tenseigan’s power. However, since we haven’t seen this specific power in action, it’s challenging to fully understand the godlike capabilities associated with the Tenseigan. As an Otsutsuki Dojutsu, the Tenseigan shares many of its abilities with other Otsutsuki artifacts, but its strength is significantly greater.

The Prerequisites For Awakening the Tenseigan

Embarking on the journey to unlock the mystical power of Tenseigan isn’t something that can be done lightly. There are specific conditions that must be met before this incredible dojutsu can manifest. As I’ve learned, awakening the Tenseigan involves infusing a pristine Byakugan with Otsutsuki Chakra, a unique blend that transforms the Byakugan into a Tenseigan. In the movie “The Last: Naruto”, Toneri managed to accomplish this extraordinary feat by seizing Hanabi Hyuga’s Byakugan and transplanting it into his own eyes.

In Toneri Otsutsuki, the combination of his Otsutsuki DNA and Hanabi Hyuga’s Byakugan led to the emergence of the Tenseigan. Yet, this isn’t the sole method for awakening the Tenseigan; it can also occur when Otsutsuki chakra merges with a Byakugan wielder. It’s speculated that such a merge could trigger the Tenseigan’s appearance. However, it’s important to note that a single Hyuga Clan member’s Byakugan isn’t sufficient for this awakening; another Hyuga’s Byakugan must be transplanted into the eyes to bring forth the Tenseigan.

In my observation, the idea that Himawari could awaken the Tenseigan may initially strike some as implausible. However, upon reflection, it’s not entirely far-fetched given her familial background. Let me explain.

You see, Himawari is a member of the Uzumaki clan through Naruto, who, incidentally, is also the reincarnation of Asura. This lineage can be traced back to the Otsutsuki clan. Moreover, Naruto holds within him the chakra of Hagoromo Otsutsuki, one of the Otsutsuki ancestors.

Conversely, Hinata hails from a lineage that can be traced to Hamura Otsutsuki, Hagoromo’s younger brother. In the storyline of “The Last: Naruto the Movie,” Hinata was recognized as the Byakugan Princess by Hamura himself, signifying her as one of the purest descendants of Hamura.

So, considering both Himawari and Naruto’s lineage, it’s not entirely impossible for Himawari to awaken the Tenseigan, given that it is a powerful Otsutsuki-related eye technique.

In Himawari, who carries the genetic code of both the Sage of Six Paths and Hamura Otsutsuki, the potential for manifesting the Tenseigan already exists. Essentially, Himawari has traces of the Otsutsuki Chakra within her due to her connection with Naruto. Additionally, Himawari is the youngest member of the Hyuga clan to have awakened the Byakugan in her eyes. Given that she already possesses the Byakugan and Otsutsuki Chakra, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the emergence of the Tenseigan could be a future event within the Boruto manga.

It’s possible that Himawari could qualify for the Tenseigan, given her Hyuga lineage. Since Kurama appears within her and she has new abilities, the manga is positioning her as a potential rival to Boruto and Kawaki’s power level. Given the growing excitement about her character, it wouldn’t be surprising if Himawari receives another power boost in the shape of the Tenseigan soon.

Although her present abilities aren’t as strong as most other characters in the manga at the moment, giving her the Tenseigan would allow her to face off equally against the current menacing forces in the story, like the Shinju. This power boost would undoubtedly bring Himawari up to speed with the rest of Boruto’s cast. Although there are no indications yet in the manga about this happening, it’s a plausible speculation that she might receive such an upgrade at some point in the future.
