As a seasoned Agent 47 with years of experience under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the stealthiest of assassinations to the most chaotic gunfights. In this mission, we’re dealing with none other than the legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme, and boy, does he know how to put up a fight!
In the latest expansion of “Hitman,” action star Jean-Claude Van Damme joins an eclectic roster of fictional targets, following in the footsteps of Sean Bean. The new DLC transports players to the expansive Chongqing map, hidden within an underground facility. Van Damme portrays Max Valliant, a former ICA agent who has gone rogue and embraced villainy. Initially believed to be deceased, Valliant reappears with a mysterious proposition for the ICA. The narrative unfolds like a high-octane sci-fi action movie, as players are tasked with eliminating Valliant and his duplicates.
In the Elusive Target missions, players only have one chance to finish the mission. Once the duplicates are unveiled, there’s no going back and starting over again. If you quit or meet your demise, you’ll have to wait for a 12-hour period before attempting it once more. To minimize the risk of getting caught, make sure to conceal any transparent glass panels with 47’s cameras and neutralize the security cameras. This is crucial when striving for that prestigious Silent Assassin ranking. Players are given two opportunities to play the mission and eliminate Jean-Claude Van Damme’s character through different means. However, there are limited chances to try out various assassination techniques, so here we present 10 efficient strategies to terminate Jean-Claude Van Damme (and his duplicates) in Hitman.
Spoilers ahead for the Splitter Elusive Target Mission in Hitman: World of Assassination.
12. Following Pritchard And The Mission Story
A Guided Tour Of The Restructured ICA Facility
For fans of the game Hitman who prefer immersing themselves in the storyline and making the most of each level, accompanying Angus Pritchard as he navigates the ICA facility under Valliant control provides a rich, all-encompassing experience. Adhering strictly to the main route might not reveal every hidden detail, but it does give 47 a chance to identify potential strategies – crucial in the second stage of the Elusive Target mission, which requires Silent Assassin, Suit Only conditions, meaning no disguises and no survivors.
IO Interactive has expanded the Chongqing map with new rooms, but the overall structure should still feel recognizable to those who’ve explored it before. It’s advisable to study any changes in the layout first before diving headfirst into action. Following the Mission Story guide marker will lead players through the trickier sections of this expanded level.
11. Boil The Clones Alive
Agent 47 Loves To Push Buttons
When a player steps into a room filled with inactive clones in tanks, they notice a temperature control panel that seems invitingly reachable, but is guarded by just one engineer and a researcher who joins later. This engineer is responsible for maintaining the temperature settings, so 47 won’t be able to sustain high temperatures for an extended period.
To secure unfettered entry, enter the room prior to the researcher’s arrival and casually leave a firearm on the floor in the engineer’s designated area. Once he discovers it and alerts a guard, seize the opportunity to swiftly manipulate the control panel while he’s away. With this action, the dormant clones will be deactivated, reducing 47’s number of Jean-Claude Van Damme counterparts by six.
10. Mercy Killing
It’s The Kind Thing To Do
As a dedicated Hitman fan, I must admit that not every in-game death leaves me questioning my moral compass, but this one might just make me pause for thought. Not every Van Damme doppelganger managed to capture the raw lethality and ruthlessness of the original character.
The character has the chance to eliminate JCVD (Jean-Claude Van Damme) in front of engineers who react with disappointment. This action doesn’t have any repercussions, making it an unusual assassination scenario. However, it does offer the player a unique experience – watching the JCVD character dance joyfully on his own after being defeated.
9. Sauna Broil
A Less Than Soothing Accident Kill
47, with his expertise in handling risky gear, must prepare the Van Damme duplicates for their roles as exceptional assassins through rigorous training. These preparations involve potentially hazardous tools, a skill at which 47 excels. Undercover as a researcher, you can guide one of the clones into a sauna, raise the heat to maximum levels, and securely lock the door. This tactic offers an additional benefit: it helps conceal the body from curious onlookers.
As a dedicated Hitman gamer, you’d recall the method from the Hokkaido hospital level, where it was one of Yuki Yamazaki’s opportunity kills. In this scenario, the animation doesn’t allow for any evasion when blocking the door, so Van Damme’s demise is clearly visible through the steamy circle window.
8. Death By Barbell
A Mid-Work Out Accident Kill
Another chance for training at a gym for the researcher involves challenging Jean-Claude Van Damme in weightlifting. Since one researcher frequently visits the restroom, there is a perfect moment to overpower him and seize his uniform. Disguised as the researcher, 47 can instruct one of the clones to use the bench press and offer assistance.
If a person is hit by a falling barbell while lifting weights, this can be considered an unfortunate accident. To prevent anyone from witnessing this event, the player might have to discreetly eliminate the on-duty researcher overseeing the situation and possibly neutralize the armed guard present in the room.
7. Poison Water Bottles
The Dangers of Hydration
Here’s another chance for a workout at a gym, where you need to handle a unique situation: There are two researchers in the room along with a guard. Wait for the Van Dammes to be occupied elsewhere and secretly contaminate the water bottles placed near the sauna door. Afterward, instruct one or both of the clones to drink from the affected bottles.
Lethally poisoning the water bottles will require one vial of poison per bottle.
As a dedicated fan, I want to emphasize that it’s crucial to have your personal supplies ready, as there might be instances where you’ll need to equip them yourself in our arsenal. In some situations, emetic poison could prove useful for separating the clones, potentially leading to an opportunity for drowning if necessary.
6. Crushed by a trash compactor
Pistons At The Ready
IO Interactive has found numerous creative ways to incorporate the Van Damme-inspired character into their game, one peculiar training scenario features this Van Damme duplicate showcasing his power and flexibility within a compacting machine, skillfully maneuvering himself into diverse poses amidst the compactor’s metal plates.
In simpler terms, the task at hand requires removing the researcher from the control room and manipulating the pistons to create a highly theatrical collapse of the target. This incident is classified as an ‘accidental kill’ and won’t impact a ‘Silent Assassin’ score.
5. Gas In The Air Conditioner
What’s That Smell?
As a gamer, my go-to spot in the Chongqing level is undoubtedly the staff room. It’s got this unique feature where the air conditioning unit can pump out poison gas. Now, the challenge here is to gather enough lethal poison to capitalize on every opportunity it presents. Luckily, there’s a cleaning trolley nearby that contains rat poison with a peculiar property – if anyone in the room ingests it, they’ll experience an unpleasant bout of vomiting.
Instead, Introduce the poison into the device, then activate it at the control panel. The clone inside will make its way to the bathroom to throw up, giving you an opportunity to drown him. However, remember this crucial point – avoid any rooms containing gas as 47 is equally vulnerable to it!
4. Explosive Golf Ball
The Sapienza Special
In simpler terms, Jean-Claude Van Damme (also known as Max Valiant) chooses to show off his clone’s shooting skills by having them aim at a golf ball he is holding. Those who are aware that the golf ball is actually explosive would then take the necessary precautions.
As a thrill-seeking gamer, I’ll strategically stash the explosive golf balls in my basket, ready for action. A direct hit from a bullet will send their copies soaring skyward. Two of these volatile spheres are marked on the map, or I can equip one if it’s part of my loadout, assuming I’ve unlocked it.
3. Standard Freestyle
Have It Your Way
47’s escort missions are often challenging, unlike typical ones where the player must keep the character they’re protecting within sight at all times. However, in 47’s case, he has the freedom to wander off and act independently, making these missions more a title than an actual escort mission.
From my perspective as a game enthusiast, this means that I, as a player, have the freedom to approach the mission in a way that suits me best. If I prefer to eliminate objectives using pistols or explosives in a more flexible, non-mission-dependent style, then I am more than welcome to do so.
2. Venting Paths
Skip the checkpoints and avoid suspicion
As a devoted fan, If you’re not keen on the lengthy escort mission storyline in the ICA Facility, there are several shortcuts to bypass its security. The vents in Chongqing may not be fully connected, but if you know your way around, you can access most underground areas with minimal interactions with NPCs. 47 can swiftly eliminate the original Van Damme in his office through a convenient vent using an unsilenced pistol. This move instantly breaks the Silent Assassin rating, but it requires minimal preparation and waiting time.
Instead of following the main mission’s path, I found a hidden shortcut to be more beneficial. There’s a secret trapdoor (I’ve cracked the code, it’s 2552) in the arcade yard that leads directly to the Tier 3 vents. Mastering these vent systems will make navigating the elusive target’s second level a breeze. The second level is quite similar to the first, but if I get caught doing anything fishy, it’s game over for me.
1. Guns Blazing
Maximum Carnage. Maximum Drama
This mission doesn’t call for a shootout approach; instead, it’s better to navigate vents and move stealthily, neutralizing guards one by one. It may take longer, but it’s achievable. There are also certain clones that can only be eliminated indirectly or through specific actions. These include dormant clones, which can only be reached via the temperature control panel.
Ensure you have a silent firearm and a rubber duck with you when entering challenging levels. This setup could significantly increase your chances of navigating unexpected difficulties that might stem from an indirect approach. Oh, and don’t forget the screwdriver – it’s invaluable to any hitman! Not only does it help open vents, but it also makes a surprisingly effective close-combat weapon.
