How to Get Fly in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
HM02 Fly Location in FRLG
- Requirement: HM01 Cut
In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, you can get HM02 Fly by speaking to the girl inside the isolated house on Route 16, which is west of Celadon City. Here’s a guide on how to find it:
To get out of Celadon City, head west from the Celadon Department Store. You’ll find a sleeping Snorlax blocking Route 16 (East).
For now, don’t worry about the Snorlax. Instead, look for a tree you can chop down with HM01 Cut. Once you’ve cut down the tree, turn left to find another way out, located next to the two girls near the grass. You’ll need to battle them as a team first. After winning, go into the building on the left to reach Route 16 (West).
There’s only one house here, and it has a blue roof. Go inside and speak to the girl to get HM02, which allows you to Fly.
If you want to get past the Snorlax blocking the entrance to Route 16, you’ll need to use the Poke Flute to wake it up. You can get the Poke Flute from Mr. Fuji at the top of the Pokemon Tower after you rescue him from Team Rocket. To reach the final floor of the Pokemon Tower, you first need the Silph Scope, which you earn by defeating Giovanni at the Rocket Hideout hidden inside the Celadon Game Corner in Celadon City.
How to Use Fly in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
You can only use the HM02 Fly move outside of battles once you’ve beaten Lt. Surge at the Vermilion City Gym and gotten the Thunder Badge.
In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the HM02 Fly allows you to quickly travel to any Pokémon Center you’ve previously visited. You need to teach Fly to a Pokémon in your party that can learn it in order to use it.
Okay, so if I want to get around quickly, I just hit pause, then go to my Pokemon list. From there, I pick the one who knows Fly. A little blue Fly icon pops up, and that brings up the map with all the places I can travel to instantly! I just pick where I want to go, and boom – my Pokemon flies me there right away. It’s super convenient!
Fainted Pokemon can still use HMs and special moves like Dig.
Best HM Slaves for Fly in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
Fly is a powerful Flying-type move in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, and worth teaching to one of your main Pokemon. If you don’t have a Pokemon already on your team that can learn Fly, you’ll need to find another one just to use the move temporarily. Here are a few good choices for that purpose:
- Pidgey
- Spearow
- Doduo
- Farfetch’d
If you need a Pokémon that knows both Fly and Cut, Farfetch’d is the best choice among those who can learn Fly.
