Hockey Star Marie-Philip Poulin Talks NHL 25’s Role In Women’s Hockey

As a lifelong hockey enthusiast and someone who has witnessed the evolution of women’s hockey firsthand, I can wholeheartedly say that the collaboration between NHL 25 and the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is not just a game-changer, but a monumental step forward in representing women in sports.

A fresh modification in NHL 25 now features the Women’s Professional Hockey League, and Game Rant had an exclusive chat with renowned hockey player Marie-Philip Poulin to gain insights on how this partnership with NHL 25 will further promote women’s involvement in ice hockey.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is a newly established hockey organization, which aims to enhance the visibility of women in the sport and provide them with stronger negotiation powers and job security. Established just last year in 2023, its integration into the long-running NHL series marks a significant milestone. To delve deeper into this important connection, Game Rant spoke with internationally acclaimed hockey captain Marie-Philip Poulin.

How NHL 25’s PWHL Collaboration Impacts Women In Hockey

Hockey Star Marie-Philip Poulin Talks Representation

The latest addition to the NHL, or NHL 25, has incorporated the six teams from the PWHL (Professional Women’s Hockey League), signifying another step forward in the series’ depiction of women in the game. Poulin elaborated on how changes like this have a real and significant influence on the sport as a whole.

In our perspective, this is our debut season in the PWHL. We believe that with your support during our second year, women’s hockey will expand substantially – not just as a sport, but also in terms of games. Our goal is to foster growth in women’s hockey. Knowing that we inspire young girls and are contributing to this exciting game is something that extends far beyond.

Initially established as a response to enhance the status of female hockey players, particularly following the demise of the CWHL (Canadian Women’s Hockey League) in 2019, the PWHL was born out of a growing conviction that women’s hockey required additional measures for long-term sustainability. This belief sparked its creation, aiming to offer increased stability, operational assistance, and united strength within the sport. The swift emergence of the PWHL into NHL 25 indicates a promising start for this new association.

How The PWHL X NHL Collaboration Came To Be

Through his discussion, Poulin highlighted the significant efforts put into developing the game as he explained how this newly established organization gained a spot in Electronic Arts’ AAA NHL series.

It seems clear that they’ve put in a tremendous effort to ensure our inclusion in this game. We were involved in the scanning phase, where our heads were scanned, and it appears they genuinely desired our participation in the game.

We understand this is merely a single stage in such an extensive journey, yet appreciating the energy and dedication poured into letting us participate in this game is crucial. I hope one day it becomes standard practice, and everyone understands that boys aren’t the only ones playing hockey – girls can aspire to join too. It’s fantastic to witness this diversity.

In October, the latest addition to the NHL series was launched, followed by an update in December. The meticulous preparations for incorporating PWHL are evident, and the strides it represents are unmistakable. The PWHL presents itself as a league designed by its members, offering enhanced operational assistance for women across all levels; its partnership with NHL 25 is indeed a significant milestone.
