Despite being the top-selling game of 2023, there’s room for improvement in potential future installments of Hogwarts Legacy. It appears that a DLC for Hogwarts Legacy may have been scrapped, but a follow-up game is still on the horizon. Hogwarts Legacy isn’t alone in the category of major action adventure sequels being developed, though.
The long-awaited game, Far Cry 7, has been generating excitement for some time now. Known for its pulse-pounding survival narratives, the Ubisoft series differs significantly from the action-adventure genre, yet shares a similar trajectory with another title, Hogwarts Legacy. While both games tread different paths within the action adventure realm, they share a striking resemblance. As for improvements, it seems that Far Cry 7 could benefit from a more compelling protagonist, whereas Hogwarts Legacy 2 might require a more formidable antagonist.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 and Far Cry 7 Have the Same Problem, But With Opposite Characters
Hogwarts Legacy’s Villain Problem
In the game Hogwarts Legacy, Goblin Ranrok played the role of the primary antagonist. It was intriguing to see a goblin as the main villain, but in the end, he seemed underdeveloped and uninteresting. His shallow motivation made him appear flat, preventing the story from realizing its full potential. Unfortunately, Ranrok fell short when it comes to creating an engaging villain. Fingers crossed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 delivers a captivating antagonist with more depth.
Having Ranrok as a less formidable antagonist inadvertently spotlights the protagonist of ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ slightly more. While a stronger backstory might be beneficial for the main character in ‘Hogwarts Legacy 2’, the RPG aspect of the game allows players to tailor their character’s traits, making them more distinctive.
The upcoming live-action version of “Harry Potter” being developed by HBO has recently disclosed some of its cast members. John Lithgow is set to depict Dumbledore, while Janet McTeer will portray McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu will play Snape, and Nick Frost will be Hagrid. The roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione have not been filled yet.
Far Cry’s Scene-Stealing Villains Leave Far Cry 7 With a Protagonist Crisis
Through the passage of time, the Far Cry series has introduced some of the most memorable villains in video gaming. Characters such as Vaas Montenegro, Joseph Seed, and Pagan Min have captivated audiences with their larger-than-life personas, making them both loathed and admired by players. Whether they are portrayed as pirates or cult leaders, Far Cry consistently delivers antagonists that keep gamers hooked.
In my opinion, when it comes to the main characters in the Far Cry series, I often find myself yearning for a more compelling protagonist to match the intensity of the villains. While Jason Brody is an exception, many other Far Cry leads seem to be missing that depth that could help players empathize with them. This lack of emotional resonance can make it challenging to feel invested in their actions and their outcomes, leaving me feeling a bit detached from the story.
Reports and whispers suggest that the upcoming Far Cry game might be set on an island near the Korean coast. However, Ubisoft hasn’t officially verified these claims, so they should be taken with a grain of salt for now.
The Future of Both Franchises Remains a Mystery
- Hogwarts Legacy 2 is likely a few years away at this point.
- Far Cry 7 has yet to be officially announced by Ubisoft.
As a dedicated gamer, I find myself in a peculiar predicament, with two anticipated game franchises – one being “Far Cry” and another, the potential sequel to “Hogwarts Legacy.” Although they handle their characters differently, they share striking similarities when it comes to release timings.
At present, neither of these games seems to have a definite launch date, keeping us, their eager fans, on tenterhooks for any positive updates. With HBO diving into a live-action “Harry Potter” series, it’s only reasonable to speculate that “Hogwarts Legacy 2” might drop around the time of its premiere. As for “Far Cry,” it looks like we’re in for a surprise soon!
