Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Have Competition in the Realm of Video Games You Wish Existed as a Kid

For years, many gamers – including myself – dreamed of a game like Hogwarts Legacy. While exploring Hogwarts and learning spells was enjoyable, the real magic came from finally being able to truly live within that world – something the Harry Potter books and films couldn’t fully offer. That’s why the game resonated so deeply with so many of us. However, a sequel, Hogwarts Legacy 2, can’t recapture that same initial impact, simply because that feeling of finally experiencing that world has already happened.

It’s also possible that other games will soon offer similar immersive experiences. The rumors about Warhorse Studios, the developers of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, working on an open-world Lord of the Rings RPG are significant. Warhorse has demonstrated an ability to create incredibly believable and lively game worlds, and if they bring that same approach to Middle-earth, Hogwarts Legacy 2 might have competition from another highly anticipated fantasy RPG.

Hogwarts Legacy Was the Ultimate Payoff for a Generational Fantasy

Even though Hogwarts Legacy was released only recently, playing it feels like a distant memory, simply because I wish I could experience it for the first time again. That feeling is usually reserved for truly classic experiences, like the music from Super Mario 64 or the original PlayStation startup screen. But this highlights how long players like me had been anticipating Hogwarts Legacy. It finally brought to life a dream many of us had held for years, and that’s why it feels so nostalgic – the longing for this game goes back decades.

For many of us who grew up with Harry Potter, Hogwarts Legacy feels like a dream come true. While enjoying the movies and books was great, we always wished we could actually live in the Wizarding World. The appeal of Harry Potter has always been about immersion, and that’s why Universal Studios created the Wizarding World theme park and why so many fans love to roleplay as Hogwarts students – we wanted to experience it ourselves.

[Hogwarts Legacy] feels nostalgic now because the desire for it goes back decades.

While other experiences have let us see the wizarding world, Hogwarts Legacy truly let us live in it. It wasn’t just a recreation of Hogwarts; it allowed us to become students, choose our house, learn magic, and define our own unique journey. This level of control and personal agency is what makes the game so immersive, creating a connection between imagination and reality that movies, books, and theme parks simply can’t match.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Can No Longer Rely on Fantasy Alone

Following the success of the first game, Avalanche Software is now working on Hogwarts Legacy 2. Players are hoping the sequel will not only recapture the magic of stepping into the wizarding world but also build upon it in ways the original couldn’t. Since players already know what it’s like to be a first-year student, the sequel needs to offer even more freedom, a richer role-playing experience, and a world that truly reacts to their choices. This is a bigger challenge than creating the initial experience, but it’s a chance to create a game with lasting appeal.

As a huge fan of immersive RPGs, I’m already excited for Hogwarts Legacy 2, but I can’t help but think about the competition. Beyond the hurdles the developers might face internally, another game could really steal the show. I’ve been hearing rumors that Warhorse Studios – the team behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance – is working on an open-world Lord of the Rings RPG, and if that’s true, it could be exactly what a lot of us have been waiting for. It feels like it could capture that same childhood dream feeling that Hogwarts Legacy did, but for a different generation of fantasy lovers.

A Modern Lord of the Rings RPG Would Basically Be the Next Hogwarts Legacy

Ever since fans fell in love with Hogwarts, there’s been a strong wish to truly experience the world of Middle-earth too. Watching The Lord of the Rings movies or reading Tolkien’s books always makes you wonder what it would be like to actually live there. Games like Shadow of Mordor, Shadow of War, and the older Lord of the Rings games inspired by The Two Towers and The Return of the King have tried to capture that feeling, but they haven’t quite succeeded in giving players the same sense of personal connection and control that Hogwarts Legacy achieved.

Several Lord of the Rings games have had excellent combat, iconic scenes from the books and movies, and even innovative features like the Nemesis system in Shadow of Mordor. However, these games typically make you play as a predetermined character. While that approach suits those games, it doesn’t quite capture the true fantasy of creating your own character and forging your own path in Middle-earth, instead of simply repeating someone else’s story.

An open-world role-playing game set in The Lord of the Rings, designed like Hogwarts Legacy, could be incredibly successful. Letting players create their own character and choose their path through Middle-earth would likely have the same captivating effect on players that Hogwarts Legacy had in 2023.

Ever since fantasy lovers started dreaming of attending Hogwarts, there’s been a strong wish to experience Middle-earth just as vividly.

Exploring the Shire, journeying through stunning and sometimes dangerous lands, and having a Middle-earth that truly reacts to my actions would finally make it feel like I’m inside the world I’ve only experienced through books and movies. While The Lord of the Rings Online comes closest to that feeling, being an MMO kept it from being fully immersive – it felt more like a game than a living fantasy. But if a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy could make Middle-earth feel truly tangible, like a place you can physically interact with, it would be a serious contender.

Ultimately, Hogwarts Legacy‘s success wasn’t just about being a well-made RPG; it fulfilled a long-held dream for many players – finally letting us experience life at Hogwarts. However, the sequel will face a bigger challenge. The initial appeal of simply going to Hogwarts is gone, and now there are other games aiming to recreate that same sense of childhood wonder. If the rumored open-world Lord of the Rings RPG lives up to the hype, Hogwarts Legacy 2 will have real competition for the title of ‘the game we always wanted as kids’.
