Hogwarts Legacy May Be Getting a Single-Player Sequel After All

As a huge fan of Hogwarts Legacy, I’ve been following all the rumors about a sequel, and things are really starting to heat up! It looks like Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software – the team behind the first game – are hiring for a new single-player action RPG. What’s really exciting is that they’re also looking for people with experience in creature design specifically for the Harry Potter universe. It definitely seems like they’re gearing up for a big new project, and honestly, everything points to it being a Hogwarts Legacy sequel! I’m so hyped!

Previous job postings at Warner Bros. and Avalanche suggested that Hogwarts Legacy 2 might be an online multiplayer game where players interact in a shared world. These listings asked for people with experience creating games that are constantly updated and offer ongoing rewards, and specifically mentioned working with a well-known fantasy series based on books and films. While Hogwarts Legacy and Harry Potter weren’t explicitly named, the postings included details that clearly pointed to the franchise, leading many to believe a multiplayer sequel was in development, especially given the first game’s success. However, recent job listings suggest a different direction for Hogwarts Legacy 2, leading to new possibilities and speculation.

Will Hogwarts Legacy 2 Be Single-Player?

Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software are hiring an Executive Producer to lead development of a new single-player action-adventure RPG. They’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about the game’s source material. On the same day, they also posted openings for a Brand Manager/Product Marketing specialist focused on PC and console games within the Harry Potter universe, and an Animator with experience creating creatures and understanding anatomy. These job descriptions are very similar to those for the original Hogwarts Legacy, and some recent postings have sparked speculation that a sequel, Hogwarts Legacy 2, might be free-to-play.

Recent job postings suggest Warner Bros. and Avalanche might be planning more than one new Harry Potter game. The buzz is growing that they could be developing a single-player sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, which is what many players have asked for. This would be great news for those who loved the original game’s story-focused experience. It could also open the door for a separate, multiplayer Harry Potter game for players who wanted more online features. However, it’s also possible these job listings aren’t connected, or that they relate to a completely different fantasy game, which would disappoint fans.

Despite recent challenges, Warner Bros. remains committed to expanding the Wizarding World franchise. With a new Harry Potter TV series coming to HBO and the recent opening of the Ministry of Magic area at Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, they’re clearly still heavily invested. While it’s unclear if the upcoming online multiplayer RPG from Avalanche Software or the new single-player action-adventure game will be direct sequels to Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros. Games’ ongoing job postings suggest several large-scale projects are in development.

Given the huge success of Hogwarts Legacy in 2023, it would be more surprising if Warner Bros. didn’t make a sequel, rather than seeing them create more Harry Potter games. The only other major franchise Warner Bros. owns that’s similar – a fantasy story with both books and movies – is The Lord of the Rings. However, it makes sense that they’d focus on continuing the story of Hogwarts Legacy before starting a new game based on The Lord of the Rings.
