As a longtime fan who’s spent countless hours immersed in the magical world of Harry Potter, I can confidently say that Hogwarts Legacy was an enchanting and exhilarating experience. The game brought the iconic castle to life with stunning detail, offering players a captivating open-world adventure. And with it being the highest-selling game of 2023, it’s only natural for Warner Bros. to consider a sequel.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but marvel at the painstakingly accurate and enchanting replica of Hogwarts Castle in Hogwarts Legacy – from its grand architecture to the bustling open-world surrounding it. The spell combat system, offering a perfect blend of accessibility and strategic depth, has left me spellbound. This game has undeniably set some strong foundations for future magical adventures. Given its staggering success as the top-selling game of 2023, it seems only natural that Warner Bros. would be eager to continue the enchanting tale with a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.

There are several paths the Hogwarts Legacy series could follow, and while continuing the story as a direct sequel to the 2023 Wizarding World RPG might be ideal for the franchise, it could potentially offer more innovative possibilities if Warner Bros. ventured outside of Hogwarts for the near future of the series.

A Change of Scenery Could Be a Good Thing for Hogwarts Legacy

One standout feature of Hogwarts Legacy was its remarkable talent for replicating Hogwarts Castle’s distinctive ambiance and appearance, allowing players the liberty to traverse the famous site at their leisure. However, Hogwarts might not be as expansive as it initially appears, and Hogwarts Legacy encompassed most of the locales that fans would typically anticipate visiting.

In a potential sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, refreshing the time period might not be enough to make everything feel brand new. Despite changes, Hogwarts and its surroundings are likely to retain a familiar appearance across centuries. This could lead to a sense of repetitiveness if another game were set in the same location. However, a sequel or spin-off featuring an entirely different magical school would bring a completely fresh look, ambiance, and gameplay experience.

A New School Setting Would Allow For More Creative Freedom

The legendary Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry holds an unparalleled position in the annals of entertainment, making it crucial for any contemporary reinterpretation of this setting to be spot-on or risk displeasing devoted fans. If a subsequent or supplementary game titled Hogwarts Legacy were to introduce players to a different school, it would provide its creators with more room for imaginative exploration.

In other words, if the upcoming game “Hogwarts Legacy” were instead set at the Durmstrang Institute in Europe, the developers would enjoy greater creative liberty in designing the school’s exterior and interior, since Durmstrang has been relatively under-represented in Harry Potter media so far. As a result, fans wouldn’t have as many preconceived notions about what the institute should look like.

In the game Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, the Quidditch field of Durmstrang Institute emerged this year; however, the entire school was merely a faint, indistinct shape in the backdrop.

There Are Plenty of Other Wizarding Schools to Choose From

For the creators of Hogwarts Legacy, expanding their creative range would be fantastic. However, any future game must remain faithful to the established Wizarding World lore. Luckily, there are several canonical schools that could take center stage next. The Durmstrang Institute and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, both featured in Goblet of Fire, would make strong choices. If the sequel’s developers wanted to highlight a lesser-known school, Castelobruxo in South America could be an excellent option.

But probably the best choice for a new school in a Hogwarts Legacy sequel or spinoff would be Ilvermorny. Located in Western Massachusetts, Ilvermorny is the primary school for all North American witches and wizards. With a four-House system similar to Hogwarts’, and with it being mentioned a few times in the Fantastic Beasts series, Ilvermorny would strike a good balance between offering something familiar and fresh.
