Achieving full completion in any video game is challenging, but especially so in Hollow Knight. With all the downloadable content included, you actually need to aim for 112% completion! It’s a true test of skill for any Hollow Knight player.
If you’ve recently finished a particularly difficult game, this one might feel a bit easier. But don’t expect it to be a breeze – you’ll still need to dedicate some time and effort to complete it. While unlocking all the Pantheons will likely be the biggest challenge, gathering everything else will also take a while!
Each item on the list contributes 1% towards completion, except for the equipment, which each count for 2%. Let’s jump into the checklist so you can finally finish Hollow Knight!
Charms (36%)
Let’s begin with the biggest part of completing Hollow Knight: collecting everything. There are tons of items to find, and many are tucked away in the most difficult-to-reach places or require completing major challenges.
This expansion actually includes even more charms, but we’ll cover those in a later part of this guide.

As a Hollow Knight fan, I’ve learned that not every boss fight is required to finish the game. Some of the smaller ones, like Flukemarm, are easy to miss and aren’t crucial for the main story. But, if you’re a completionist like me and want to snag the Flukenest charm, you have to beat her! Honestly, it’s just a good idea to explore and unlock as much of the map as you can anyway – you never know what you’ll find!

Defeating these bosses gives you a valuable health bonus, and you’ll need it to achieve all of our objectives later on!

Dream Nail Essence (3%)
So, what can you actually do with all the essence you’ve collected? It turns out, having more essence gives you an additional 3% benefit.
As I mentioned earlier, you can earn essence by defeating Warrior Dreams, and also by taking down Dream Bosses – these are tougher versions of bosses you’ve already faced. You can also find more essence by discovering whispering roots scattered throughout Hallownest.

Dreamers (3%)

Okay, we’ve fixed enough bugs for now. Let’s focus on collecting all the equipment we need. You can find equipment throughout Hallownest, and each piece permanently improves the Knight’s abilities.
Equipment that helps you move better or overcome obstacles, such as acid resistance, is crucial for making progress. Because of this, each piece takes up a larger portion of your inventory – specifically, 2%.

You can use the pale ore you collect to enhance your abilities, and learning new skills from the Nail Masters will make you a stronger fighter. With these improvements, you’ll be prepared to face the most challenging enemies in the Pantheon.

There are many ways to defeat enemies, and some of the strongest strategies focus on using Soul energy instead of your nail. These Soul-based spells become very powerful with upgrades, and combining them with the right charms can make you incredibly strong.
There are 3 main spells to unlock, and 1 upgrade for each.

Okay, so if I’m serious about tackling the Pantheons, I need to be completely prepped. That means maxing out my health – I’m gonna need to survive those tough challenges! – and stacking up as much Soul as possible for all my best spells. It’s all about being ready for a long fight!
To add a new full mask to your health, you’ll need 4 masks total, which requires 16 shards. Upgrading Vessel Fragments is a bit cheaper – you only need 3 to unlock a new upgrade, costing 3 Soul slots and 9 fragments.

DLC Content (12%)
The Grimm Troupe (6%)
Although ‘Hidden Dreams’ came before it, this downloadable content pack includes the core, must-have features and additions to the game.
Okay, so I figured out how to get to the Grimm Troupe! You gotta head to the Howling Cliffs, specifically west of Dirtmouth, and light this lantern you find there. Then, when I went back to the main area, their whole camp was set up! There are some really interesting people to chat with too, so definitely check it out.
To finish this part of the game, you must find and improve all the new charms, and then beat both Grimm and his stronger form, Nightmare King Grimm.
Alternatively, you can earn the Banishment achievement. This rewards you with the Carefree Melody and lets you skip the fight with Nightmare King Grimm.

This downloadable content is shorter than the others, mainly offering improvements and bug fixes. It does introduce one new boss, the Hive Knight, but the fight shouldn’t be too difficult if your character is fully upgraded. You can find and defeat this boss by exploring the updated Hive area.

Godmaster (5%)
We’ve reached the final challenge! This is the biggest and hardest part of the downloadable content, and it will truly test your skills as you explore Hallownest.
Okay, so those extra percentage boosts you’re seeing? They’re linked to the Pantheons, and you can unlock them after you find the Godseeker. I found him in the Junk Pit, and all you have to do is use ‘A’ to free him. As a bonus, you’ll also snag the Godtuner, which gives you a free percentage point right away! It’s a pretty easy boost, honestly.
Once you have the Dream Nail, you can enter Godhome and explore the four main Pantheons. While there are five Pantheons in total, you only need to finish the first four to achieve 112% completion. Defeating the fifth and final Pantheon unlocks a new cutscene and is considered the true ending of the game.
Okay, so the very last part of the game actually has two different endings. It all depends on whether or not I gave that flower to the Godseeker earlier. It’s cool to know my choice actually matters that much!
